Avengers: Doomsday could be hiding a surprise twist in plain sight. We all know that Robert Downey Jr. is playing the iconic Marvel supervillain Victor von Doom, as it was announced at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) in July 2024. However, a new fan theory suggests that RDJ is not the only Doom in the movie.

This fan cites the convention displays and merchandising as evidence of their theory. If true, this fan believes that Marvel might have cast two more actors besides Robert Downey Jr. to play Doctor Doom in this December's Avengers: Doomsday. However, this should be taken as a rumor for now, and we will get a clear picture when we are seated in the cinema halls.

Avengers: Doomsday's Doctor Doom theory explained:

Fan jenkz.p put forth a theory suggesting that there could be three variants of Victor von Doom in Doomsday. They cited the three different Doctor Doom looks in the marketing material for Avengers: Doomsday. One is Doom in his iconic comic-book-accurate armor. The other appearance the fan cites is a simple leather costume that was displayed at a convention.

But it is the third one that convinced the fan that there might be three different Victor von Doom variants in the movie. The third thing that jenkz.p pointed at is the "Lord Doom" Funko toy, which released a month ago. In that toy, we see Doom dressed in a Latverian military uniform.

However, it seems that jenkz.p could be overlooking something about the "Lord Doom" figure.

"Lord Doom" might have been cut from the final version of Doomsday:

Comicbookmovie published a report last month, which stated that despite the Funko release, Lord Doom might have been cut from the final movie. Funko may have released this version of Doom as a toy because it may have already been manufactured by the time Marvel decided to cut Lord Doom from Doomsday.

Therefore, the theory that the upcoming Avengers movie has three different Doom variants could also be an outlandish idea. As of now, there is only one thing we know about Doom in the upcoming movie.

Victor von Doom lost everything dear to him:

The second trailer confirms that the Doom we will meet in Doomsday lost everything. It doesn't go into detail about what he lost, but countless leaks have alluded to the Latverian ruler losing his wife and child. The same leaks have also hinted that Captain America's decision to stay in the past Avengers: Endgame somehow affected the multiverse.

Other leaks have also suggested that Steve Rogers' shocking decision to build a life in the past results in a branched timeline that forces the TVA's hand. However, Loki relocates Steve and Peggy to Earth-828, the Fantastic Four Earth, and probably even Doom's. This relocation supposedly causes the incursion that kills Doom's family.

If this rumor is true, Victor von Doom could be a tragic figure with an understandable goal, much like Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. This time, RDJ's Doom could be aiming to solve the problem of the multiverse collapsing. Trailers have also suggested that he is furious at the heroes for living stolen lives, a line from one of the teasers. The official logline teases a challenge for our heroes:

"'Avengers: Doomsday' follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered."

The movie could end with Doom winning, which would serve as a setup for next year's Avengers: Secret Wars.

Avengers: Doomsday is just a month away from its release date. Prepare yourself for the project by rewatching the movies Marvel has highlighted.
