The United States Senator Bernie Sanders reportedly fired back at Elon Musk, who wanted to build millions of robots per year to replace workers. The senator remarked in an X post,

"No, Mr. Musk, we should be worried about the pain that AI could cause humanity, not the other way around. HUMANS FIRST."

According to Common Dreams, Tesla and SpaceX leader Elon Musk recently supported Anthropic's move to forbid users from engaging in ongoing, unnecessary abusive or cruel behaviour toward its Claude chatbot models. Last week, Musk replied to a conversation on X about Anthropic's new usage policy and said that the company's choice was the right move.

Bernie countered Musk's statement, saying humans should worry about the pain AI could cause them. The senator gave first priority to humans.

Sen. Bernie Sanders pushed back against Elon Musk's AI concerns

On October 13, 2026, Bernie Sanders reportedly answered Elon Musk's worry about artificial intelligence possibly having feelings. Bernie said that the focus should stay on people and that technology must be developed with human needs at the centre.

NewsGram reported that Anthropic's new rule is set to begin on November 12. It would allow normal complaints and arguments with a chatbot and help humans carry out dark creative writing. The news portal also mentioned that there was no proof that current chatbots would feel pain or have emotions like humans.

Bernie Sanders asked how ordinary people would survive if machines displaced workers on a large scale. He also warned about the social impact of AI companions, especially on children and teenagers.

Last week, Bernie repeated his demand for Congress to block the creation of advanced AI. He argued that powerful tech leaders were secretly preparing for what he described as a catastrophic AI event.

Bernie Sanders and Congressman Greg Casar from Texas introduced a bill last month to halt the development of advanced AI. The legislation also sought to ban the creation or use of what Donald Trump continuously described as 'Super Intelligence'. Several experts believed that advanced AI could pose serious danger to humanity.

Elon Musk clarified that 'Experiencing pain is not ok'

Bernie Sanders responded to Elon Musk's X post where Musk showed sympathy towards AI. According to First Post, Anthropic had revised its usage policy to forbid unnecessary cruelty towards Claude and its other AI models. The updated rules also covered deceptive campaigns, software created to support weapons, and non-consensual tracking. Anthropic's website mentioned,

"We remain highly uncertain about the potential moral status of Claude and other LLMs, now or in the future."

The website added,

"However, we take the issue seriously, and alongside our research program we’re working to identify and implement low-cost interventions to mitigate risks to model welfare, in case such welfare is possible. Allowing models to end or exit potentially distressing interactions is one such intervention."

The updated policy had placed a limit on deceptive campaigns, covering tactics such as fake accounts, organised efforts to sway public opinion, and fabricated news websites. The company had also made clear that tracking individuals without their consent was restricted.
