Former MAGA ally Nick Fuentes is mocking Donald Trump's executive order renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America amid the ongoing trade war with Canada. On August 27, the U.S. President claimed that the name change would be “effective immediately” as the sign “Making the Great Lakes Even Greater” stood in the corner of the Oval Office.Nick Fuentes, 28, released a video on X and was heard saying:“It’s actually a monumental episode. Huge, ground-breaking, history-defining… President Trump has heroically renamed Lake Heron, or excuse me, Lake Ontario, to Lake America. We did it… Gulf of America, Strait of America, Lake America. What’s next? American Ocean? Earth America? I don’t know, we’ll see what happens next.”Nick Fuentes continued in a sarcastic tone:“It’s another epic victory… another epic fury… by our fearless Commander-in-chief, leader President Trump… this is a substantial move, very strong, very big move in our trade war with Canada… Just goes to show how impotent the United States has become under Trump… It's actually humiliating and embarrassing and sad.”The right-wing political commentator, live streamer, and influencer observed that he wasn’t sure how the name change will impact Canada and reminded how their Prime Minister Mark Carney “left trade talks” with the United States last week “without reaching a deal” amid Trump imposing a 50 percent tariff worth $20 billion on the neighboring country.“We’re threatening to put tariffs on them, they are threatening to put tariffs on us and shut down electricity that they send south into the United States, among other things,” Nick Fuentes explained.Exploring further Nick Fuentes’ mockery of Trump’s renaming Lake OntarioNick Fuentes, in his 4-minute video, mentioned he wasn’t really sure about the point Trump was trying to make and if the renaming of Lake Ontario would at all “pressure” Canada into getting back on the trade deal and make concessions.“I’m sure that’s gonna have a real effect. He explained that it’s “embarrassing” because the USA isn’t doing the “other stuff” nor is it “winning.”“If we had taken Greenland, if we had built the Border Wall, if we had defeated Iran, if we had actually done those things, not that I support that by the way, but let’s just say for the sake of argument, had Trump actually succeeded in all these things, then maybe it would be a nice, little victory lap… to start renaming everything. And maybe, it might even stick,” he noted.Nick Fuentes mentioned that in reality the USA was failing to win arguments and negotiations with its own allies, not even Europe or NATO, and also with its adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, and North Korea.“So, what’s the only thing we can do? We can change the names of the things on the map…” Nick Fuentes ended.Throughout 2026, the conservative commentator has been launching attacks on the Trump administration. He urged fellow Americans to “boycott” the midterm elections and backed the Democrats to impeach Trump. In his podcast, You’re F**ked, Nick Fuentes noted in February:“I cannot wait for the Democrats to take the House… I hope they subpoena all of them [Trump’s inner circle]… They are covering for each other.”He argued that a Democratic majority would “expose” the “systematic corruption” in the current administration and took issue with the Epstein Files and mass deportations. Nick Fuentes claimed the new revelations would make past controversies “look like nothing” and asked conservatives to “stay home” and not “bail them out.” He also claimed the ongoing misconduct was “worse than the first term.”Elsewhere, Nick Fuentes called Israel the “boss” of the United States and urged his followers to “abandon” Trump amid the Iran conflict.Canada has responded to the renaming of Lake OntarioOn Thursday afternoon, the POTUS noted:“‘Lake of America’ was something I’ve been thinking about for a long time. We have a gulf and we have a lake. Now, all we need is an ocean. So, maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific. Maybe we’ll change them both.”Amid his executive order, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney took to X to respond:“The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means ‘the lake is beautiful, the lake is big.’ The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.”Carney continued:“We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.”Meanwhile, the House Democrats added on their account:“It’s too expensive to live and Donald Trump is renaming lakes.”Lake Ontario borders the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of New York. It was named by the area’s indigenous population who lived around the water body in the 17th century. The lake is jointly controlled by both countries according to the Boundary Waters Treaty signed in the early 20th century to avoid disputes over shared waters.Over the weekend, Donald Trump imposed heavy tariffs on Canadian goods and Mark Carney retaliated by announcing increased tariffs on U.S. products. The trade talks are currently at a standstill.It is noteworthy that Trump’s executive order can legally change the way the U.S. government refers to Lake Ontario, but can’t control how Canada or the rest of the world addresses it.Immediately after taking office for his second term, Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. In March 2026, he also referred to the Strait of Hormuz as “Strait of Trump” but didn’t try to legally/officially rename it. Just last week, the President also claimed the geographical landmark as an “American territory,” which sparked controversy.
