Ahead of the 2026 United States Midterm Elections, which are scheduled to take place on November 3, 2026, President Donald Trump has expressed that he has a plan ready if Democrats take power. The election results will decide who will hold the majority in the U.S. Congress for the next two years.

While the president will still remain in office, the results of the midterm elections will heavily affect how the country is run during the last two years of his term. Ahead of the elections, Trump has expressed that he will reject Democrat policies if they take power.

Trump's plans if the Democrats win

The 2026 United States Midterm Elections will decide whether the Republican Party will maintain its narrow unified control of the legislative branch or if the Democratic Party will flip one or both chambers. The president has been rallying for numerous Republican candidates such as Roger Marshall, Mike Rogers, and Dan Sullivan, among others.

Tomorrow's results will thus decide who will hold a majority in the U.S. Congress. Trump recently spoke to Miranda Devine on the Pod Force One podcast. He answered questions about future plans, the Iran War, and the midterm elections. When asked how he would handle the situation if the Democrats won over the Republicans, he said:

"I'd veto everything."

He also said:

"I guess I'll become Mr. Veto. I'm not going to let them ruin it."

Trump added that he would stop the Democrats from passing their policies. He explained that this would not be the first time there would be a president without a majority in the House or the Senate. In such a situation, lawmakers send legislation for approval, and if the Democrats win, he would veto their policies.

After repeated vetoes over a month or two, he suggested that the Democrats would likely come together to negotiate a deal. However, he expressed that he hopes that such a situation does not arise.

Initially, Trump's veto comment might seem puzzling since a President cannot veto election results. What he meant instead is that he plans to aggressively veto the legislative bills and policies that a Democratic-led House or Senate might send to his desk during the final two years of his term.

Such a comment from the president is not being perceived by the general audience in a good light. While it does not qualify as an open threat, it is a clear message the president is sending to his opposition. It is yet to be seen who wins tomorrow, and how that will change the landscape of America's politics.

Besides talking about the midterm elections, Trump also expressed that he would love to run for a third term if the U.S. Constitution allowed it. The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution limits a president to serving only two elected terms.

Thus, this is Trump's last term. However, he expressed that since there are two years left of his term, he believes he and his administration can still make enough changes and bring in the kind of policies they think the country needs.
