The promotional content for Doomsday has mostly leaned into what fresh new hell Doctor Doom will be bringing to the multiverse. However, Robert Downey Jr.'s Halloween post might be a tease, and it's a cute one.

After playing Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU, Downey is returning to play Doctor Doom, and his new Halloween post seems to tease the Thing's fate in Doomsday.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doomsday-themed Halloween post

Robert Downey Jr. is known for posting teases that are hard to decode, and his Halloween post this year is one of them. So far, all promotional content for the upcoming film has heavily implied that Doom is the biggest threat the Avengers or the other superheroes have faced so far. Moreover, he is going to be accompanied by three Latverian witches, whose identities have been kept under wraps.

Robert Downey Jr.'s new Halloween post is made in the likeness of the 1966 animated Halloween television special, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. We see tiny versions of Doom and the three Latverian witches out on trick-or-treating. Ben Grimm/The Thing's hand sticks out of a house, holding a bowl of candy. The image also features Doom holding up a few rocks and a speech bubble, which indicates that Doom is saying:

"I got a rock"

That is a reference to the famous and melancholic catchphrase said by Charlie Brown in the previously mentioned Halloween Special. It's a cute way to wish everyone a happy Halloween and momentarily makes Doom appear less scary. Moreover, since the Thing's skin resembles that of a rock, the catchphrase used is a humorous reference to that as well.

However, it is highly unlikely that Downey will make a Doomsday-themed post on Halloween if it doesn't have a second meaning. The Thing has been confirmed to be appearing in Doomsday and will be one of the superheroes fighting against him.

Thus, Downey's post might be a tease of what happens to the Thing in the upcoming film. Since he's the only one in the image along with Doom and the Latverian witches, the post might be teasing that the Thing will die in the film or face a different kind of brutal fate at Doom's hands.

Another possibility is that Doom might be able to turn the Thing to his side. That theory is an implausible one, but given the twists Marvel has explored in the past, we can't disregard it either.

However, these are just theories right now and not confirmed by Marvel.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
