The Challenge star Nurys Mateo opened up about battling mental health and having su*cidal thoughts earlier this year in a post on her personal Instagram account. Mateo titled the video an "extremely vulnerable post" and talked about how 2026 was a hard year for her.

She pointed out that she was at a "worst place" in her life and added:

"I hated life. I hated everything. I was battling every single day with my mental (health) telling me that it would be better if I wasn't here."

Further in the post, Nurys detailed how she got out of that place in her life. She also pointed out in the caption along with the reel on Instagram that she was sharing her story to help someone who was going through the same struggle as her.

Here is more about the story.

The Challenge's Nurys Mateo opened up about how she did "everything" to get out of that phase

Nurys started the video by saying she was so glad she decided not to "off herself." She added that though she was now laughing at her misery, she faced a very hard year where she dealt with a "lot of mental health issues."

Nurys said:

"I definitely was in a very—I don't know if I can say this... but, like, low-key su*cidal."

She revealed that she not only dealt with her mental health but also that the only person whom she had confided in about all her struggles pushed her more into it.

Nurys shared:

"The one person that I confided in quite literally pushed me deeper into that depression. Quite literally did not give a f*ck to help me get out of there."

Nurys pointed out that even though she was deep in a mental health struggle, she was aware that several people were counting on her. So, she did everything she could to come out of that place in her mind.

The Challenge star stated:

"So I just literally did everything I could to possibly get out of that phase in my life because I didn't want to be there. I didn't want to hate myself every single day. I didn't want to feel not worthy enough to be alive."

Mateo added that she was grateful that God helped her to get out of that place, and she was "grateful" that she confided in other people and her friends about her struggles. She shared that these people wanted to help her with her struggle, and she was grateful to her "friends and family" and her fans.

The Challenge star wrote in the caption on the reel that she was not sharing her story for any sympathy. She just wanted to help anyone who was struggling with their mental health through her story.

She added that her life might seem rosy, but nobody could suspect the struggles that she went through internally.

Nurys ended the caption, saying:

"I’m sharing this to remind you that you’re not alone... And please remember, a bad chapter doesn’t mean your story is over."

Mateo recently appeared on The Challenge: Cutthroat season 42. Her journey on the show ended during episode 4 after she lost to Anna Leigh in the arena.
