"I don't know": Marvel fans deadlocked over Deadpool succeeding Stan Lee cameo rumors

Stan Lee, the creator of innumerable Marvel comics characters, appeared in several films from The Trial of the Incredible Hulk (1989) to Avengers: Endgame (2019). Fans have always loved to see him appearing on their screen as a background character, and until he was alive, it was almost a tradition to look forward to his cameos.

Now that Lee is no longer with us, there are rumors that in the future we might see Deadpool make cameos in Marvel films. Fan opinions on the matter are, however, split.

Fans are split regarding the idea of Deadpool taking over Stan Lee's Marvel cameo tradition

Deadpool is undoubtedly one of the most skilled and entertaining Marvel characters we have seen in recent years. Played by Ryan Reynolds since X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Deadpool has appeared in 4 Marvel live-action feature films. Fans have also been vocal about their love for the character for years.

However, not everyone thinks so. LADbible recently reported via a post on Instagram that there are rumors of Deadpool carrying on the Stan Lee cameo tradition in the future. These are all fan rumors, and they are yet to be confirmed by Marvel.

The comment section of the LADbible post is filled with various opinions on the matter, and the fans are deadlocked over the idea. One user (@shamzunkie) wrote:

Many other fans expressed the same feeling in different words, making it obvious that many are just not sure how they feel about it. It reflects the fact that fans weren't expecting a rumor like this or the possibility of it potentially becoming a reality.

One user pointed out why most fans loved the Stan Lee cameos and why Deadpool taking over isn't a good idea. The user (@mattwheway) said:

"I love Deadpool, but this totally misses the point... nobody watched the cameos because they were cameos. We watched them cos it was Stan. I’d even go as far to say that replacing him is just disrespectful - Deadpool wasn’t even one of Stan Lee’s characters"

What this fan said makes sense. Most fans did love the cameo just because they loved, admired, and respected the artist who gave them such iconic characters. Thus, replacing Lee with Deadpool when pre-recorded clips of his cameos exist might be considered disrespectful by many.

But there are also fans who like the idea. One user (@realalexstephens) commented:

Before passing away, Stan Lee pre-recorded many cameos once he realized that his health was deteriorating. Thus, there isn't much of a chance of Marvel resorting to AI for Lee's cameos, but they just might. Some fans would thus rather see Deadpool make cameos in every Marvel film than see an AI-generated Stan Lee.

"Ngl this is actually the most feasible and logical thing to do , cuz he anyways breaks the fourth wall. Instead of his regular red costume he should make cameos in the movies without his costume so nobody knows who he is 😂🤣"

It is true that Deadpool often breaks the fourth wall and directly addresses the audience. Thus, it could be entertaining if he were to appear in cameos without his suit, if done right.

Marvel is yet to comment on the matter, and thus the idea of Deadpool taking over the Stan Lee cameo tradition is just a rumor at this point. However, if it turns into reality, fans might still be deadlocked over whether they like it or not.
