One of the major DCU projects that's scheduled for this year is Supergirl, headlined by House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock. We met the character for the first time in the final act of Superman, which reveals that Krypto is her dog and not Superman's dog. Like in the comics, we learn that Kara Zor-El/Supergirl is Superman's cousin.

But the one character that everyone is excited to meet is Lobo, played by Jason Momoa. Momoa was also Aquaman in the now-defunct DCEU created by Zack Snyder. The Lobo actor sat down for an interview with ScreenRant's Liam Crowley to promote his movie, The Wrecking Crew. There, the former Aquaman actor addressed the primary way in which the DCU is different from DCEU:

"I think they're very different because they're also different characters. I came in on a whisp of an idea on Batman v Superman until Justice League hit."

Jason Momoa also addressed his DCU future:

In the same interview, the actor also went on to reveal that the DCEU was planned by Zack Snyder, a fact that we already knew. For the uninitiated, the DCEU, or the DC Extended Universe, kicked off with Man of Steel. But the franchise soon ran out of gas in five years, and it was scrapped in October 2022 with the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran as the DC Studios CEOs.

After giving his opinion on the difference between the DCEU and DCU, Momoa further continued:

"It was all pretty mapped out by Zack. He had it all very mapped out. I only know Lobo's in this one, and so we'll see what the future of all that holds. I would love for his own thing to be coming out."

Then, the actor went on to address his future as Lobo in James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe after Supergirl:

"I don't know if there is. I think it's probably up to the audience and how they feel about it, but I think he's got his own things mapped out and I'm not privy to any of that. I think everyone's going to be... James's career is just equal to what Zack's done, what they've built and what their worlds are. They're amazing directors world building. So I'm pretty excited. When I got to step into Lobo, I mean, that was a pinch me moment. And my first scene is pretty gnarly. I'm pressed to see another actor pull off that first take, what we did. I'm excited to talk about it because it's hard. And I grabbed it with gusto and I'm very excited about it."

When will the DCU Lobo make his debut?

Lobo's first appearance in the DC Universe is in this year's first project, Supergirl. For the uninitiated, Lobo in the comics is an intergalactic bounty hunter, and it seems that the same applies to the cinematic version as well. The movie is an adaptation of the acclaimed 2022 graphic novel, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The graphic novel is written by Tom King, who is also one of the DC Universe's architects.

Lobo is a movie addition, but it should be noted that the character was a part of the story in the initial creation of the comic book storyline. Tom King himself confirmed it in an interview with the YouTuber wordballoon:

"That book [Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow] began as me pitching a Lobo [and] Supergirl book. It was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character.'" It wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.”
