Matt Walsh has predicted that Democrats will launch investigations into President Donald Trump and members of his administration after taking control of Congress in the 2026 midterm elections.
In a post on X published on November 4, 2026, the conservative commentator warned that the party would pursue impeachments, federal cases and investigations targeting conservative figures if it gained power.
"Democrats will get into office and immediately start investigating Trump, his officials, and anyone else they can think of."
He also claimed that several Trump officials could face impeachment. His comments followed a sweeping Democratic victory that gave the party control of both chambers of Congress, with the new majorities set to take office in January.
Matt Walsh predicts investigations and impeachments under Democratic control
In his post, Matt Walsh suggested that investigations could extend beyond the current presidential term if Democrats won the 2028 election.
Walsh claimed that conservative politicians, activists and public figures could face federal cases and potentially go to jail. He wrote that Democrats would use their control of government to pursue actions that Republicans had allegedly been unwilling to take against their political opponents.
Matt Walsh also criticized Republicans for not using their previous control of Congress to investigate Democratic figures or dismantle left-wing political networks and their sources of funding.
Referring to the murder of Charlie Kirk, Walsh argued that it should have prompted a stronger national crackdown on left-wing extremism. He said Republicans had failed to take that opportunity.
Matt Walsh further predicted that Democrats would move to eliminate the Senate filibuster if they won the presidency. His post did not identify specific federal cases or provide evidence that Democratic leaders had announced plans for the actions he described. The comments are his expectations for how the party might use its political power, and are not backed by evidence.
Democratic Senate majority could block Trump's judicial appointments
The November 4, 2026 NBC News election coverage projected that Democrats had won control of the House and Senate, with the party expected to secure at least 258 House seats. The victories followed gains in battleground and traditionally Republican districts. The new Congress is scheduled to take office in January.
A separate NBC News report published November 4 examined how the Senate result could affect Trump's judicial appointments. With Democrats set to control the chamber, the president is expected to face difficulty securing confirmation for new judges, including any potential Supreme Court nominee.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer had told NBC News in October that his party would not confirm what he described as “MAGA justices.” On November 4, Senator Richard Blumenthal said the likelihood of Democrats approving a Trump Supreme Court nominee was “slim to none.”
President Trump has already appointed 56 district and appeals court judges during his second term, in addition to 228 appointments from his first term, NBC News reported. A White House official said the administration expected all judicial nominees currently pending in the Senate to be confirmed before Republicans lose control of the chamber in January.
