Inside César Gastelum's death: What the Mexican influencer's livestream captured in his final hours

The Mexican social media Influencer César Gastelum was murdered yesterday during a live stream in Culiacán, Sinaloa. According to local authorities, he was shot and killed while streaming live with friends outside a fast-food restaurant in the northwestern city of Culiacán.

The attack happened while he was recording content with two other young people. The two men arrived on a motorcycle, and one of them shot him in the head at point-blank range in front of bystanders. The crime occurred during the live broadcast, meters away from the State Attorney General's Office and the Public Ministry Agency buildings.

According to the police, they didn’t find any clear motive for shooting the influencer. Authorities stated that they haven't found any reason behind the incident, as they are unclear whether César Gastelum was directly targeted or became a victim of random violence.

What happened to César Gastelum?

César Gastelum had close to 600,000 TikTok followers and was popularly known for his comedy clips. While he was broadcasting live outside a fast food place, two people wearing helmets arrived on a motorcycle, approached Gastelum and his group of friends, and shot Gastelum in the head from point-blank range. Later, a security authority in Sinaloa state confirmed that Gastelum died and reported that a large security operation was in progress.

The murder happened during ongoing violence in the capital of Sinaloa, Culiacán. The place has been the main area of fighting between rival organized crime groups trying to gain control.

A similar case happened in Zapopan

The shooting also brought back memories of the May 2025 murder of Mexican beauty influencer Valeria Marquez, who was shot while streaming on TikTok at the salon where she worked in Zapopan, a city in the western state of Jalisco.

According to the prosecutors, the 23-year-old Marquez was killed when a man entered the salon and opened fire. Her case was investigated under femicide protocols.
