If rumors are true, then another new actor might have joined the MCU X-Men project. Knight Edge Media published another report about Peter Claffey of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms joining the MCU movie as Beast/Hank McCoy. This casting choice has confused some fans, as they thought Hank was always an older adult since the beginning.

The early 2000s film franchise and the popular animated series X-Men: Evolution contributed to the impression that Hank was an adult. However, the comics paint a different picture, as Hank is one of the first students in Xavier's school.

In fact, Beast/Hank McCoy, Cyclops/Scott Summers, Marvel Girl/Jean Grey, Iceman/Bobby Drake, and Angel/Warren Worthington III were the founding five members of the mutant team, affectionately referred to as the "Original Five".

Fan reaction to Peter Claffey's X-Men casting explained:

Claffey has long been a fan-favorite choice for the role of Beast. However, some fans are confused, as they were under the impression that Hank was older than the X-Men. They theorized that the MCU could be adapting Hank as an older authority figure like the movies that came before. A reply to a comment pointed out that Claffey is just a few years older than Sadie Sink and Kit Connor.

Another fan expressed that they thought Beast was significantly older than Cyclops, Angel, Iceman, and Jean:

However, those who know the comic lore will know that Hank, alongside Scott, Jean, Warren, and Bobby, was one of the founding five members of the mutant team, also affectionately referred to as the "Original Five". Still, Marvel Studios has not confirmed Peter Claffey's casting in the MCU movie. Therefore, we should take this casting as a rumor for now.

Meanwhile, we will see Beast on the big screen in two months

As we wait for confirmation about Peter Claffey's involvement in the MCU X-Men movie, it is confirmed that Beast is involved in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to release this December. Kelsey Grammer, who has played the character in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014), and The Marvels (2023), is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which might also be his last appearance as the character.

We don't know much about his role in the movie, but rumors have hinted that the mutant team might be one of the opponents in the upcoming Avengers movie.

"'Avengers: Doomsday' follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered."

What do we know about the MCU reboot?

The reboot will be directed by Jake Schreier, who had previously helmed Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers. Marvel confirmed the cast of the reboot, which includes:

  • Christopher Abbott - Professor Charles Xavier
  • Sadie Sink - Jean Grey
  • Kit Connor - Scott Summers
  • Inde Navarrette - Rogue
  • Adam Driver - Nathaniel Milbury
  • Samara Weaving - Emma Frost
  • Maya Boyd - Storm

As for the comics that supposedly influence the upcoming reboot, Schreier spoke about this topic in a Collider interview early this year. In that interview, the filmmaker cited the classic comic storylines as a foundation:

“When you go back, and you read all of X-Men, and you see how much of it was also, obviously, the ideology is a huge part of what drives the narrative, but also the interpersonal, and there’s a soap opera quality to it."

He continued:

"When you go back and read those original comics, I think having writers who understand both of those things and how to kind of drive that ideology from more personal risks, if we can get all of those things right, and in a way, that’s the thing that will feel most honest to what X-Men can be.”
