Is the Man of Tomorrow teaser dropping after Lanterns finale? Exploring possibilities

While Man of Tomorrow wrapped up filming in August, there haven’t been any major leaks from the movie. As DC Studios gears up for the Lanterns finale airing this week, some believe that we may get the first teaser for the Superman follow-up after the last episode of the HBO DCU series is made available to the wider public this weekend.

This speculation comes from the fact that Aaron Pierre is confirmed to appear in the Superman sequel. Given that Guy Gardner is appearing in the final episode, it wouldn’t be surprising if the first Man of Tomorrow teaser is released this weekend. But the chances of it happening are slim.

Why is it highly unlikely that the Man of Tomorrow teaser will be released after the Lanterns finale?

The reason is simple: the Man of Tomorrow production team, headed by James Gunn, is in no hurry to start the marketing campaign. The follow-up releases on July 09, 2027, and, much like its predecessor, could drop its first teaser in December.

The reason some people even thought that the first teaser would be released soon is camera operator Chris McGuire's Instagram story. McGuire worked in the department of the DCU blockbuster, and he posted a camera department artwork for the movie, not an official illustration.

In the camera department art, Superman and Lex Luthor (in his battle armor) are getting ready for battle in a vintage Daily Planet background. It looks like this:

Therefore, it wasn't surprising that fans thought the marketing push for Man of Tomorrow had already started.

But the truth is that the marketing push for the Superman sequel probably doesn't need to start until this December. However, the Lanterns finale could set up the Superman sequel.

The Lanterns finale could end with a setup for the next Superman movie:

The main focus of the Lanterns finale will be solving the murder mystery at the heart of the series. We caught glimpses of Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner in the preview above. Guy may ultimately help John solve the mystery.

After solving everything, the finale could see John Stewart embrace his destiny as a Lantern Corps member (Green or not, that remains to be seen). This scene could set up John's character arc in the DCU going forward, including the Superman sequel.

But apart from this small tease, we can't expect an obvious setup as we saw in the Ms. Marvel finale, which planted the seeds for The Marvels. The DCU might take a different approach to setting up sequels than the MCU. However, we can expect DC Studios to start marketing after the final episode of Lanterns.

Clayface releases this October:

The marketing campaign for Clayface has been surprisingly slow, as the movie is also a part of the mainline DCU. It means that the movie is set in the same continuity as Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Supergirl, Lanterns, and Man of Tomorrow. However, we believe that the marketing campaign for Clayface, which is an R-rated body horror, will slowly ramp up starting next week.

Thus, it would be prudent for DC Studios to start marketing Clayface before they start promoting the Superman sequel, which will not release until next July. Moreover, Clayface is important because this is the first DCU project, which is also set entirely in the DCU Gotham. Therefore, fans hope to get a glimpse of this continuity's Batman.
