All about the family life of Susie Wolff

Susie Wolff’s marriage to Toto Wolff is regarded as one of the most prominent power-couple relationships in modern Formula 1. Today, they are undoubtedly called F1’s golden couple.

They first met in 2009. Susie was competing in the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) series, racing for Mercedes-Benz. Toto, at the time, was a co-owner of HWA AG, the team managing Mercedes' DTM program. In the same year, when Wolff suffered a life-threatening crash at the Nürburgring Nordschleife, he sustained multiple fractures and nerve damage, causing tingling and loss of smell/taste, and vertigo.

While recovering in the hospital, Susie (née Stoddart), who was on a fitness camp with Mercedes DTM drivers, heard rumours of the accident and called him, which initiated their first conversation. The pair had passed one another at tracks before but never spoke.

After dating for eight months, Toto proposed to Susie Wolff in a classic yet romantic way on a boat in Venice. According to the couple, his original plan was to propose somewhere special in Venice however his plan never succeeded. When they were on a boat heading back to the airport in Venice and he took the opportunity to propose to her.

The couple eventually got married on the Italian island of Capri in 2011 and welcomed their son Jack Wolff in 2017. She often shares pictures with her son on her Instagram account. In an interview with the Telegraph, Sophie Wolff shared how she and her husband manage their parental duties. She told the outlet:

“I don’t think we’re dissimilar to many couples who have busy jobs. I have Toto’s schedule on my phone so I always know which country he is in, or at least when he’s coming home. And we just have to prioritise. If that means Jack and I jumping on a plane to wherever he is to make it work, we make it work.”

Susie Wolff further spoke on how she is the one who often makes compromises in their marriage, adding that she understands the racing industry. She said:

“Someone has to. And right now it’s me, for sure. I’m based here. And Toto is in and out. It’s a big advantage that I understand the industry so well; why he has to be away, why he has to stay longer at the factory. All of that means I’m not giving him a headache at home when he does return. I get it.’

Susie Wolff attended Oban High School in Oban, Scotland. This is where she completed her secondary education before pursuing higher studies at the University of Edinburgh. She left a year later to fully commit to her professional racing career.
