Attorney Harvey Oyer, who is representing the golf course, sent a letter to Palm Beach County commissioners and mentioned that the president wants to designate the property as a "U.S. Presidential Golf Course." The plan would allow the site to be used by past, current, and future U.S. presidents and foreign leaders who visit.Trump said that it'd be great to use the property for the presidents after the United States Secret Service suggested the plan to him. Trump thought that since all presidents play golf, he wanted to develop the place as a presidential gateway.According to the Hill, Harvey wrote the proposal and sent it to Palm Beach County commissioners. He said,"This is a gift that the President would like to share with his successors, the people of America, and his fellow Palm Beach County residents. It should be noted that President Trump will be out of office before this proposed project could be completed, so this is a gift to his successors."This is not the first time Palm Beach has been considered for a presidential retreat. The owner of Mar-a-Lago, Marjorie Merriweather Post, wanted the estate to serve as a winter residence for presidents. After she died in 1973, she donated the property to the federal government, but the National Park Service couldn't maintain the area, as it was too expensive, and so the administration returned it to her estate. In 1985, Donald Trump purchased Mar-a-Lago and kept the original name. His golf course is located less than five miles from the estate. A White House official familiar with the proposal told The Palm Beach Post that the golf course would offer amenities of a “world-class property.”Read more: Donald Trump pushed the Nobel Peace Prize bid, claiming he stopped the war. Also read: Why did Donald Trump say that Democrats would impeach him if they win control of Congress?Follow Soap Central for more updates on Donald Trump.
