James Gunn addresses Christina Hodson's hiring as the writer for The Brave and the Bold

The news of Christina Hodson writing the The Brave and the Bold script has the internet split, because of the writer's involvement in The Flash movie. She also wrote Birds of Prey, a movie that has its fans and haters. Thus, the writer has had some unfortunate luck when it comes to her DC projects, as Batgirl, a film she wrote the script for, was unceremoniously scrapped for tax write-off.

But her contribution to Bublebee, an acclaimed Transformers project, remains underappreciated. Which is why it was nice to see the DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn come to his writer's defence this week on social media.

What did James Gunn say about The Brave and the Bold writer Christina Hodson?

James Gunn decided to post the BTS photos from the set of Superman, featuring the set of the "Chocos" office on his Threads account. This is important because it hints at the future appearance of the fan-favorite DC superhero, Martian Manhunter. As that happened, a fan took his shot and asked Gunn about the DCU Batman project. They asked:

"Hi James! A source said that filming for The Brave And The Bold could begin in 2027 if the script was finished, but THR said it wouldn't be until 2028 or even 2029. Which is true? I'm really looking forward to seeing Batman in your DCU."

To this, the DC Studios Co-CEO responded:

"The universe is rife with incorrect information about the Brave and the Bold on every level."

Hearing this, a fan asked if the news about Hodson writing the movie's script is also a rumor. Expressing support for Hodson, the fan addressed the toxic hate towards Christina Hodson:

"Oh wow. So does that mean no Christina Hodson? She’s getting so much unjust hatred it sadness me."

Responding to this, James Gunn came out in Hodson's support, saying:

"I will only say anyone maligning Christina Hodson's screenwriting skills has almost certainly never read an actual screenplay by Christina Hodson - she's one of the writers who was with us early in the DCU planning stages. I don't think you can judge my writing based on films others directed, as massive liberties are sometimes taken."

While Gunn did not confirm whether she is writing the project or not, these words of support do suggest that she is indeed writing it. It should also be noted that Hodson has been a part of the DCU writers' room since the beginning. Gunn confirmed it himself through this post last year.

What do we know about the DCU Batman?

The Brave and the Bold does not have a complete script yet; therefore, no actor has been announced yet. We know that this movie will feature a live-action Robin on the big screen for the first time in thirty years. But apart from that, we don't know anything about this Batman project. However, we did see this universe's Batman in Creature Commandos' sixth episode.

We see him in Doctor Phosphorus' flashback as the figure who took down the Gotham mobster. Therefore, despite not having a Batman, we already have some glimpses of the DCU Gotham. Moreover, this year's Clayface will take us through the DCU Gotham and probably show us what this universe's version of Batman looks like.
