Lex Luthor is not exactly the antagonist in Man of Tomorrow. In the upcoming sequel to Superman (2025), Lex Luthor (played by Nicholas Hoult) and Superman (played by David Corenswet) will team up to face a common enemy, Brainiac.

In a recent social media post, James Gunn has revealed the first look at Lex Luthor's power suit for Man of Tomorrow, and surprisingly, it is exactly how it was in the comics.

First look at the comic-accurate Lex Luthor power suit revealed by James Gunn

When James Gunn first announced Man of Tomorrow back in September 2025, he had shared a picture of Superman and Lex Luthor together from the comics. In the picture, Luthor was in a huge power suit, something made to make him almost as powerful as Superman since they will be facing Brainiac together. The suit is also canonical to the comics.

While we know how far James Gunn can go to do justice to his projects, no one had expected that we would get to see Luthor in the exact power suit as in the comics (and the image Gunn posted). James Gunn has actually pulled it off, and now, as he revealed on social media, we'll get to see Lex Luthor in the canonical power suit in Man of Tomorrow.

Gunn posted a picture of Luthor in the suit, looking up, with his head inside the visor. The suit is enormous on him and reminds one of Iron Man's Hulkbuster. He posted the picture with the caption,

It is not easy to replicate Luthor's power suit, especially for a film where the character has to fight and has a considerable amount of screen time. This shows the lengths to which James Gunn is willing to go to give the fans what they want. It is going to be hard work for Hoult to act from within the suit as well, which also speaks volumes about the actor's dedication to the role.

Man of Tomorrow will follow Luthor and Superman as they have to reluctantly team up to fight an alien android, Brainiac. Describing the film's story on The Howard Stern Show, Gunn had said,

"And it is a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat. And it’s more complicated than that, but that’s a big part of it. It’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie.”

He added,

“I loved working with Nick Hoult, who played Lex; I relate to the character of Lex Luthor, sadly, so I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. Oh man, I just love the script so much; I’m excited for people to see the movie.”

James Gunn is the writer and director behind the film. He is also producing the film with Peter Safran. The Safran Company, DC Studios, and Troll Court Entertainment, are the production companies behind the film.

Man of Tomorrow is going to be released in theaters on July 9, 2027.
