John Rambo cast: Every star confirmed so far in the upcoming Lionsgate revival

John Rambo is an upcoming action thriller film directed by Jalmari Helander. It will serve as a prequel to First Blood, released in 1982, and will work as an origin story of Rambo. Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani have written the screenplay.

The makers recently announced that production has kick-started. Several actors were also announced as part of the film's cast. So let's get into the details of the cast as well as the film.

The franchise started in the year 1982 and was followed by several sequels. The film was adapted from David Morrell's namesake 1972 novel.

All the cast members of John Rambo revealed

The makers of John Rambo recently announced that Noah Centineo will be starring in the lead role. Other cast members include Yao, Jason Tobin, Jefferson White, Quincy Isaiah, and Tayme Thapthimthong. Centineo has appeared in the action war film Sisu, while Yao last appeared in the period horror Sinners.

Thapthmthong was in the third season of The White Lotus, while Isaiah has acted in Winning Time. White has done several television projects, including Yellowstone. The film is written by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani while Jalmari Helander is the director. It's produced by Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, Jonathan Yunger, Michael Disco and Angela Russo-Otstot. The production banners include Millennium Media and AGBO.

Anthony and Joe Russo, Trevor Short, Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk are serving as the executive producers. Lionsgate will be handling the distribution. The film recently went into production in Bangkok, Thailand.

Erin Westerman, president of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, issued a statement:

“We’re thrilled to start production on John Rambo, which will allow both new audiences and existing fans to explore John Rambo’s roots, his principles, and most importantly, some incredible action, courtesy of Jalmari’s singular vision and we’re so excited for Noah’s committed and powerful performance to show what forged this character into legend.”

Director Jalmari Helander also issued a statement to share his love for the franchise:

"When I was eleven, I saw First Blood for the first time and it changed my life. Rambo wasn't just a film for me, it stayed with me growing up and was a defining influence on why I wanted to become a filmmaker."

He added:

"As we begin production on the origin of John Rambo, we're going back to the beginning. This is Rambo stripped down, raw and real, a survival story about endurance, persistence and lost innocence. It's an honor to shape this next chapter with deep respect for the character and the legacy and to bring audiences the start of John Rambo's journey."

First Blood was directed by Ted Kotcheff with a screenplay from Michael Kozoll, William Sackheim and Sylvester Stallone. The film was released in 1982 and was a critical and commercial success. It was followed by four sequels, comic books, television series, video games and novels.

The makers are yet to reveal the film's release date.
