Johnny Depp is back with a mysterious new role in the first teaser for Day Drinker

After Ebenezer (2026), Johnny Depp is returning to the silver screen in Day Drinker (2027). The film is going to follow Depp as a mysterious man aboard a yacht.

The first teaser of the film has been released, and while it doesn't reveal much about the film's plot, it does feature a dialogue from Depp's character, which makes him sound terrifying.

Day Drinker clip features an ominous message

Day Drinker has released a short clip today, which serves as a teaser for the actual full-length teaser that will be released tomorrow, September 24, 2026. The teaser features a pack of Tarot cards with the Devil (xv) card facing up. We hear Depp's character, Kelly, say:

"You thought I was f**king done? I'm done when I say I'm done."

Kelly's words and tone don't sound friendly at all, and he sounds like he's just about to do something horrible. We then see an axe falling on the cards, destroying them. The clip then reveals the names of three cast members: Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline, and Penelope Cruz. It ends by saying that the teaser will be released tomorrow.

The card that we see in the clip symbolizes addiction, shadow selves, and the feeling of being trapped by material desires. Since the clip doesn't say much, based on what it does say and shows us, it looks like Depp's character will struggle with addiction to something and will have a hunger for wealth.

However, he might not be the only one who has that hunger. As Deadline reported a while back, the logline of the film states that Cruz's character will be a criminal figure, which would then make her hungry for wealth and also for power. The logline states:

A private-yacht bartender (Cline) encounters a mysterious onboard guest (Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.

Thus, Cline's character, Lorna, will come across Depp's Kelly, and they will end up in a mess due to Cruz's character. Based on how Depp's character sounds in the released clip, it looks like he is not just a man who got caught up in an unfortunate situation. He will most likely turn out to be much more complicated and potentially dangerous than assumed initially.

There isn't too much information available regarding the film's story yet. So far, all we know is that it will be a supernatural revenge thriller featuring a bartender, a mysterious man, and a criminal, among others. We will most likely know more once the teaser is released tomorrow.

Besides Depp, Cline, and Cruz, Day Drinker also stars Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle.
