Johnny Depp crashes back with a threat and an axe in the new Day Drinker teaser

Lionsgate has released the official teaser of Day Drinker, starring Johnny Depp, Madelyn Cline, and Penélope Cruz. The one-minute-and-thirty-four-second teaser wastes no time pulling viewers into its dark world.

Marc Webb, the director behind 500 Days of Summer, Gifted, and The Amazing Spider-Man, directs the movie, with Zach Dean, known for The Tomorrow War and Fast X, handling the screenplay.

Johnny Depp presents a very different side of the actor in the trailer, with his gravelly delivery and menacing demeanor. The trailer also gives us a look at his darker side, with the character using an axe to take down his enemies and then giving a chilling threat:

"I’m done, when I say I’m done."

What does the teaser of Day Drinker reveal?

The official Day Drinker teaser gives us a quick look at Depp's character as he talks about the way he has lived his life. He admits that getting into trouble and his bad behavior have helped him make a living, and he sees no real reason to change now. In another clip, his character asks:

"Don't you sometimes want to misbehave?"

We also get to have a closer look at Depp's character story in the Day Drinker teaser as he says that his story might be tied to revenge or maybe just something worse than that. As he talks about it, the teaser shows a photo of him with what seems to be his family.

As he says this, we see Madelyn Cline's character touch another woman's face, but the scene soon turns strange with the woman's face turning into what seems to be a ghost. We also see Penélope Cruz's character, a criminal figure, looking like she might be possessed.

And just then, Depp's character says:

"What if all this is a ghost story? Or maybe I'm just another day drinker."

The clip then reveals that he was talking to Cline's character, who is a bartender on the luxury yacht serving him drinks. Towards the end of the teaser, we see a man telling Depp's character that he doesn't belong in the place, as he responds, saying he doesn't belong anywhere. The teaser soon turns deadly, with him killing people with axes and gunfights and giving the threat:

"You thought I was f***ing done? I'm done when I say I'm done."

However, this is not the first time we will be seeing Depp and Cruz together, as the two stars have previously appeared together in Blow, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Murder on the Orient Express, making Day Drinker their fourth movie together.

The trailer also shows many scenes on the water as a dead woman is seen falling into the sea, possibly linked to Depp's character's past. For fans who have been waiting to see Johnny Depp in a lead role again, Day Drinker brings him back at the center of the story.

The teaser gives the movie a dark feel while also showing small pieces of Depp's character, from his troubled past and need for revenge to his skills with an axe. However, we still don't know much about Madelyn Cline and Penélope Cruz's characters or how they fit into his story, leaving their part of the movie a mystery for now.

Day Drinker is scheduled to release in theaters on March 26, 2027.
