Josephine’s first clip teases a heartbreaking nightmare for Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan

The first clip of the American thriller-drama movie Josephine recently circulated online with a scene showing Claire and Damien becoming desperate to protect their daughter while having dinner. The film's plot reveals that their 8-year-old daughter witnessed a violent s*xual assault in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park while she was out on an early-morning jog with her father.

The footage teases a heartbreaking nightmare when Josephine asks her mother for a gun, but her father rejects her proposal. The small girl asked for a gun because she wanted to save the victim from those criminals.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Channing Tatum, who plays Damien, explains that it is a tough situation for any parent to handle the tantrums of their children. He adds that the intense moments between him and his daughter often become difficult, and so he struggles with two conflicting responsibilities: one is to protect his daughter from dangers while also letting her understand and process what she has witnessed.

The clip opens with a scene showing Damien serving his daughter noodles while Claire stares at both of them and is thinking of asking something. Suddenly, Claire speaks up

"Jojo, do you have any questions about today?"

Josephine replies,

"When can I have a gun?"

Damien quickly responded and said that he doesn't want those things in the house. Her mother tries to explain to her that it is their job to keep every kid safe. The conversation grew even more serious when Jojo wanted to know the reason for the absence of the victim's parents in the park.

Damien lightens the seriousness and assures Jojo that this type of incident will never happen to her. However, Claire defends her husband, saying that he can't say that to her. In turn, Damien replies that he absolutely can say that to her.

Josephine: Chan and Tatum open up about the first clip

Gemma Chan, who plays Claire, explains that Claire and Damien appear closely aligned, believing they have been in step with each other until now. However, they have not yet faced the kind of major test that is about to challenge them. Chan explains that their bond will soon be pushed in a way it has never been before.

Tatum describes the moment as one of many where Mason Reeves truly impresses him. He highlights Reeves' strong acting as Jojo, saying she consistently leaves him amazed with her performance. He says,

"As parents, they’re disagreeing on how to approach such a difficult situation, but it’s all happening right in front of her as the kid, and you can’t look away from how she plays it."

The star further says that he was deeply impressed by how well Reeves captured the tension of the scene and the added anxiety that Damien and Claire were experiencing at that moment.
