JPMorgan Chase has reportedly fired an executive, Angie Báez, for dumping trash and then stealing the trash bin. Video clips of what happened next revealed that the woman had then travelled through the New York City subway with the stolen bin.

After reviewing the video footage, JPMorgan Chase concluded that the woman was an employee of the company and now has been let go. Here's all we know about the incident.

Why was JPMorgan Chase executive Angie Báez fired?

Over the last weekend, videos of a woman in New York Knicks gear went viral as she was dumping trash out of a limited-edition, blue-and-orange public trash can on a sidewalk in Manhattan. This took place during the Knicks' NBA championship parade. After dumping the trash across the street, she walked away with the trash bin as a sort of souvenir. Later clips captured her travelling via the New York City subway system with the bin.

The woman was identified as forty-year-old Angie Báez. She has been working at JPMorgan Chase as the Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce. As reported by the New York Post, after reviewing the footage, JPMorgan Chase has officially fired Angie Báez on June 23, 2026.

A representative of the company confirmed Báez's termination to the New York Post, saying,

“This employee is no longer with the company.”

While Báez was attending the championship parade in her personal time and not for business purposes, her actions have reflected badly upon the company. Videos of her littering have gone viral, and it seems JPMorgan has fired her both for her inappropriate conduct and how that has affected the company's image.

Báez's actions are in stark contrast to how she has been described by her previous employees. For instance, her corporate bio on her previous place of work, The Infatuation, stated that her:

"Dedication to making a positive impact shines through in every aspect of her work.”

The bio also described her as:

"A vibrant mosaic of Dominican heritage, Bronx roots, and a passion for storytelling, creativity, and culture”

who,

“continues to lead the way towards a more inclusive and equitable future.”

The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a statement after the New York Post reported on the incident, criticising her actions as:

"Illegal, antisocial behaviors, and not what New Yorkers do.”

Despite there being proof of her littering and stealing public property, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has reportedly not received any formal complaints against Báez, and thus she has not yet been charged criminally. Stay tuned for more updates.
