Avengers: Secret Wars will be the only MCU movie hitting the theatres in 2027. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, has opened up about the MCU's lineup at the San Diego Comic-Con held on July 25, 2026.
With MCU titles like Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday arriving in 2026, Marvel enthusiasts were looking ahead to the upcoming year's releases. However, Feige's comments at Comic-Con suggest that the fans should not expect a new Marvel movie between Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Doomsday will hit the theatres on December 18, 2026, while Avengers: Secret Wars will release nearly a year later, on December 17, 2027, making it the MCU's solo theatrical release in the upcoming year.
Avengers: Secret Wars release window: Kevin Feige explains the year-long gap after Doomsday

In an interview with Empire Magazine following the ComicCon panel, Feige explained why Marvel Studios has planned for the significant gap between the movies, Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
"A lot of it is a strategy we’ve talked about for a while, of focusing on quality. We always try to focus on quality, but when quantity is so much, you get spread thin. We didn’t want to be spread thin, and the Avengers is as important as it comes."
Feige further added that Avengers: Secret Wars is intended to set the stage for the MCU's future.
"So really, it was landing those two movies and setting up 2028, of which we’ve revealed two of them so far, Ghost Rider and Panther III.”
Avengers: Secret Wars will release on December 17, 2027. The movie was originally announced for May 7, 2027, but was pushed back due to strike delays. Even though not much is revealed about the plot, the movie will bring back Doctor Doom as the arch-rival.
According to various sources, after the events of Doomsday, Doctor Doom would be seen ruling the Battleworld, which he reconstructed using elements from different universes. After the mass destruction, Doom becomes the omnipotent Emperor of the Battleworld. The Russo brothers will be directing the movie, and the Fantastic Four are the only superheroes who are confirmed to return.
Apart from Secret Wars, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is set to drop on June 4, 2027; however, it's a part of Sony's animated Spider-Verse trilogy.
Marvel Studios' San Diego Comic Con unveiled an exciting lineup of new movies and exclusive clips. Feige kicked off the presentation with the announcement that the Avengers: Endgame re-release will feature unseen footage of events that will set the stage for Doomsday.
Marvel Studios further revealed that they are working on a new Ghost Rider film with filmmaker Shawn Levy starring Ryan Gosling. The film is expected to release in 2028. Apart from that, the third Black Panther film was also announced. Ryan Coogler will step in as the director, and David Jonsson will play the son of T'Challa. The Doomsday cast joined the presentation, and the attendees received special Doom masks.
Apart from that, Jon Bernthal took to the stage to share exclusive footage from the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
