Fans of the band are reportedly excited about the upcoming film. Red Hot Chili Peppers are still active in the musical scene.

Netflix to release Red Hot Chili Peppers in March

Netflix will be releasing the forthcoming documentary film on Red Hot Chili Peppers on March 20, 2026. The film is directed by Ben Feldman, while Marc D’Agostino is the producer. It's edited by John Tarquinio. The executive producers of the film include Feldman, Dan Braun, Josh Braun, David Blackman, and James Slovak. Its production banners include Asta Entertainment, Submarine Entertainment, and Polygram Entertainment.

The film will focus on the rock band's journey through several rare glimpses. We will also get to see how songs like Californication and Under the Bridge were made. The band was founded in Los Angeles and has spanned over four decades in the industry. It's one of the best-selling bands of all time, with over 120 million records sold globally.

The film premiered at last year's Cannes Film Festival and was screened in LA and New York. Feldman issued an official statement,

“It’s a true honor to partner with Netflix to bring ‘The Rise of the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ to a global audience. At its heart, this is a deeply relatable story, about the friendships that shape our identities and the lasting power of the bonds forged in adolescence. What’s less relatable, of course, is that here those friends went on to create one of the greatest rock bands in history. I’m profoundly grateful to the band and to Hillel’s family for their trust and generosity, and to Netflix for helping bring this story to the world stage.”

The band has stated that the forthcoming documentary is not an authorized film on them. In an official statement, they said:

Dear people of the universe, About a year ago, we were asked to be interviewed for a documentary about Hillel Slovak. He was a founding member of the group, a great guitarist, and friend. We agreed to be interviewed out of love and respect for Hillel and his memory. However, this documentary is now being advertised as a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary, which it is not. We had nothing to do with it creatively. We have yet to make a Red Hot Chili Peppers documentary. The central subject of this current Netflix special is Hillel Slovak and we hope it sparks interest in him and his work."

The film will release on Netflix on March 20, 2026.
