Lindsay Clancy trial: Author Allison Weiner explains why dismissing TikTok witness was the right decision

The News Nation senior producer and author of Murder in the Media, Allison Weiner has recently explained the reason behind the judge's dismissal of the TikTok witness for the Lindsay Clancy murder case and further clarified that the judge had taken the right decision.

According to People Magazine, a former psychiatric hospital worker named Emily Thorndike made a 10-minute TikTok video criticizing prosecutors and the hospital where Lindsay's treatment was going on.

Emily was examined on the witness stand on August 19 while the jurors were not present in the courtroom. Clancy's lawyer Kevin Reddington submitted a request to include Emily on the defense witness list, but there, she strongly criticized the prosecution and argued that the standard of care at McLean was wrongly presented during the trial.

Kevin revealed that he was initially unaware of Thorndike's TikTok video, but later he tried to call her as a trial witness after the post went viral on social media.

Allison Weiner opened up about why dismissing the TikTok witness was the right decision taken by Judge Sullivan

Recently, the author of Murder in the Media, Allison Weiner explained the reason behind the judge's dismissal of Emily Thorndike's statement for the Lindsay Clancy murder case. She said,

"Because she did not work at the facility where Lindsey Clancy was staying when she was trying to get mental health help. She wasn't there during the period that Lindsey was there."

Weiner further explained that the witness did not have substantial testimony or evidence to present in the case of Lindsay Clancy's murder. According to her, the judge said that it was problematic for a witness to discuss Linday's testimony on TikTok since it served as a source of income.

The senior producer further said that the judge compared the situation to the O.J. Simpson trial when individuals appeared on TV programs like Hard Copy which were paid.

The judge thought that if the court had allowed Emily to testify then people might raise questions about the court's credibility and authenticity. The judge acknowledged that the witness was credible but her testimony only concerned a time when Clancy was not at the hospital.

Emily Thorndike had earlier worked for McLean Hospital where Clancy was admitted for several days, but she had left the job the year before Clancy's admission. Prosecutors opposed Kevin's plea to add Emily to the witness list because she was not employed at the healthcare facility during Clancy's stay.

Judge William Sullivan decided not to permit Emily to testify before the jury because her testimony carried limited value as she didn't work at the facility while Clancy was admitted. Sullivan further stated that the hospital's staffing information is already documented in McLean's official records and further ruled that Kevin could present those records as evidence.
