With the recent passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, old rumors and memes about him have started circulating again online. Lindsey Graham has long been linked to the "Ladybugs" reference, which led to the hashtag #LadyG. In the past years, many people have been seen adding the ladybug emojis to photos of the senator.

But what does it actually mean, and where did it come from? In 2020, a gay p*rnstar, Sean Harding, indirectly mentioned Graham on X, writing:

"There is a homophobic republican senator who is no better than Trump who keeps passing legislation that is damaging to the lgbt and minority communities."

He claimed that Graham had allegedly hired multiple s*x workers and wondered if enough people coming forward with similar allegations could cost him his office.

The claim soon went viral with people describing Graham using the ladybugs' phrase, fitting into the larger pattern of speculation about his s*xuality. However, Lindsey Graham reportedly has denied rumors about his s*xuality.

More on the story below.

Lindsey Graham Ladybugs: Where did the rumor come from?

The X post (formerly Twitter) made by Sean Harding quickly gained attention online, with many people believing Harding was referring to Graham. In another tweet, he added that he cannot do this alone, and if someone is willing to stand against the person, whom he called LG, please let him know. From the initials used by him in the tweet, many started wondering if he was talking about Graham.

In the tweet, many users came forward and made similar allegations and shared unverified claims about Graham.

Soon after, another person named Philip Huang made an allegation that seemed to be referring to Graham mentioning the phrase ladybugs. In the Medium article, reportedly titled "Lindsey Graham Hired Me As An Escort," Huang made claims against Graham after being reportedly hired and meeting him in the Westmore Hotel.

He wrote that he thought the dark spots around the man's private area were dirt and tried to wipe them off with a wet towel. The person mentioned asking the man if he had taken a shower, and got a yes in reply. After wiping the area multiple times, he realized that it was not dirt but clusters of dark moles.

The person reportedly continued in the article, adding that they were his "little ladybugs," which is said to have inspired the nickname. Many people came to believe the posts referred to Graham, but there has never been any verified evidence confirming that they were about him.

As the rumor spread online, many people started calling Lindsey Graham "Lady G." The "Lady" came from the alleged "ladybugs" reference, while the "G" stood for Graham.

However, there is no confirmed evidence, including photos or videos, that shows that the claims are true. Additionally, Graham never publicly commented on the rumor before his death. Graham was also known for opposing many LGBTQ+ rights over the course of his political career.

What makes the rumor particularly pointed for many is Graham's public stance against transgender and LGBTQ+ rights. Graham was in support of defining marriage as between a man and a woman by voting for the Defense of Marriage Act, standing against a bill that would have protected LGBTQ+ people from workplace discrimination, and opposing the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

The mix of the rumor and his conservative views on trans rights has kept the rumor popular even after years.
