Paramount has been trying to meet Rob Bonta ahead of the 2-day conference held across October 14 and 15, 2026, because it wants to reach a settlement before October 1, 2026.However, Bonta had cancelled the meeting, claiming that Paramount had leaked crucial information to the press. Paramount has denied the allegations. It is crucial for Paramount to reach a settlement by October 1, 2026. That is because according to their contract with Warner Bros., they would have to pay Warner Bros.' shareholders $7 million per day as a ticking fee if the merger isn't completed by September 30, 2026.Now, there are reports that claim Rob Bonta is going to meet with Paramount this weekend. Thus, both parties might reach a settlement this weekend that will allow the media company to finally go forward with the merger without attending the conference or facing trial.Mark Ruffalo, through his post, urged Bonta to stand by the common people who have trusted him with leading the coalition and not settle with the media company. He also urged his audience to sign the BlockTheMerger petition to convey the message to the attorney generals and Paramount that they do not want the merger.Mark Ruffalo isn't the only one to speak against the merger in recent times. Recently, President Donald Trump barred media outlets like CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the executive branch complex due to alleged unfavorable reporting and coverage. After that, the journalists of these outlets, among others, were denied access to the White House grounds and had their press passes confiscated.As Deadline reports, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) spoke up against what happened to the journalists. She referenced the incident to further justify why she thinks the WB-Paramount merger is a dangerous one and should not happen. As of now, it is not yet officially confirmed if or when Rob Bonta and Paramount are meeting. If they reach a settlement this weekend, the conference and the trial will no longer happen, and Paramount will be able to complete the merger.
