Marvel quietly confirms Scarlet Witch's Avengers: Doomsday role

This week has been huge for Avengers: Doomsday, because of the release of the first trailer this Monday and the movie's major presence at SDCC this weekend. However, costumes from the upcoming movie are already on display at SDCC, and one particular costume has fans theorizing that one supposedly dead MCU character might not be gone for good after all.

The costume in question is simply labeled "Latverian Witch". While the MCU did introduce other witches with Agatha All Along, many believe that the Latverian Witch costume belongs to Wanda Maximoff. But Elizabeth Olsen's return in the MCU through Avengers: Doomsday has not been confirmed yet.

Is Scarlet Witch returning in Avengers: Doomsday?

The Latverian Witch costume appears in the reel above at the 15-second mark. Keeping in theme with Victor Von Doom, the costume is green in color, but it is meant for a witch rather than a wizard. Not much is known about the character's identity; we may learn more in 24 hours, as Marvel's Hall H presentation is scheduled for this Saturday.

Many believe that the Latverian Witch is none other than Wanda because she is the most popular of all the witches introduced in the MCU. Moreover, we did not see her body when Mount Wundagore fell on Wanda in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. But Wanda is not the only possible candidate for the Latverian Witch costume.

A year ago, rumors circulated online that Ana de Armas would be in the movie as a member of Black Swan, an all-female order of priestesses that worships a Rabum Alal, who is none other than Doctor Doom. As of now, we don't know if Ana de Armas is indeed involved in Doomsday.

Is magic involved in Doomsday?

The MCU is going to focus on its magical side nearly two years after 2024's Agatha All Along. Magic will indeed play a central role in Doomsday, as Victor Von Doom is not only an accomplished scientist but also a gifted magic user. We get a glimpse of Doom's magical abilities in the trailer as he easily blocks Thor's magical axe Stormbreaker.

But one magic user's role in the movie is currently unclear: Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch confirmed last year that he is involved in Avengers: Doomsday, even though he wasn't announced as a part of the cast last March. Therefore, if Cumberbatch and Olsen are indeed in the movie, Marvel will probably confirm their involvement during the Hall H presentation this weekend.

The trailer did not spoil the movie, but it did paint the MCU Doctor Doom as a threat unlike any other. Doom's threatening posture is further confirmed in the trailer by Thor's speech to the heroes, as he is the only one in the entire trailer to fight Doom. We know nothing about this version of Doom apart from the fact that he has an accent.
