Talk show host, producer, and writer Andy Cohen mocked Ohio Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy after the latter claimed that his recent campaign rally in Perry County had a “massive turnout.”

“Massive turnout in Perry County, kicking off another day touring across Appalachian Ohio. We’re in this to fight for you; that’s what it’s all about,” Ramaswamy’s Threads post was captioned, along with images from the rally, which showed a small crowd inside a conference room.

Andy Cohen commented, “Massive?” underneath Vivek’s post.

According to USA Today, many Ohio venues, including Old Dog Ale House & Brewery and Elliot's Wood Fired Kitchen, withdrew from hosting campaign rallies for Vivek Ramaswamy amid criticism over an ad campaign featuring his Democratic opponent Dr. Amy Acton’s estranged mother.

“We’re getting calls that people don’t want him there,” an anonymous Ohio Republican told Zeteo.

Meanwhile, venues that have already hosted Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign events have received one-star Google reviews. These include Kick-N-Ax, Izzy’s, and The Local Bar Strongsville.

Despite the pushback, Ramaswamy embarked on a statewide bus tour with fellow Republicans on Friday.

Exploring the controversy surrounding Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign rally

Earlier this month, Vivek Ramaswamy’s gubernatorial campaign released an ad featuring Dr. Amy Acton’s estranged birth mother, Donna Arthur, who accused her daughter of lying about her childhood and personal life.

“I love my daughter, but when I saw her lying about her opponent, and it's not easy for a mother to say this, but Amy has a serious problem. She is a liar. She lies about her past. She says she grew up living in a tent. None of that is true. She's lied her entire life,” Arthur said in the 60-second ad.

According to U.S. media sources, Acton has been open about her past struggles, including being a s****l abuse survivor and homelessness. Meanwhile, reports indicate that Donna Arthur lost custody of Amy when her husband and Acton’s stepfather, Cledith Arthur, was arrested and charged with allegedly r****g his 12-year-old stepdaughter in 1978.

The abuse allegedly occurred between December 1976 and April 1978 and authorities were alerted by Amy Acton’s biological father. The stepdad was indicted by a grand jury and pleaded not guilty. He failed to appear before the court and remained a fugitive until 1981. He later died.

Last week, the Democratic gubernatorial candidate told Spectrum News:

“I won’t normalize somebody who has said that my childhood is just something I’m complaining about, who today just released an ad using my birth mother, who I was removed from at the age of 12 for severe abuse and neglect, and s****l abuse.”

The advertisement led to severe backlash from Republicans and Democrats alike. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine called the ad “deeply troubling” and exceeding the bounds of “human decency,” and urged Vivek to stop airing it. However, Vivek Ramaswamy has continued to spend millions of dollars to promote and air the ad. He also defended himself at a rally in Cleveland on Friday.

“The irony is they’re lying about an ad that is about lying. They’re changing the subject because they don’t want to answer for their own failures,” Vivek told the suburban crowd.

Last week, Trump told reporters outside of the White House that the ad “didn’t have anything to do with Vivek.”

“The fact is, I know nothing about it, but I hear the mother went very rogue on the daughter — doesn’t have a lot of respect for the daughter — and I think the mother is a witness to things also, so who knows? And you have to figure that out. It’s a very unusual situation to have a mother hate a daughter that much,” the POTUS added.

Later, during a campaign rally in Iowa, Trump recalled telling Vivek Ramaswamy to “ride with it” and said it was like “hitting pay dirt.”

Meanwhile, JD Vance said he was “disgusted” with the pushback from fellow Republicans, and it did not “concern” him whether the ad was appropriate.

“Politics is a tough business… I’m a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that advertisement than they are about what the congressional Democrats and other Democrats want to do to the United States of America,” Vance stated.

The U.S. Vice President also claimed that Dr. Amy Acton was “lying about every single one of her positions.”

Amid Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad, his opponent has released one of her own featuring her brother Philip Stearns, who defended her account of childhood abuse and condemned Ramaswamy for using their family’s history in his campaign.
