President Donald Trump had reportedly turned on his Deputy Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, over an immigration crackdown after it apparently led to the deportation of friends of Melania Trump.

According to a report by the Irish Star, Miller was tasked with federal enforcement operations and has spearheaded several deportation crackdowns since Trump began his second term.

According to the Guardian, Miller's work as a deputy chief of staff at the White House focused on immigration policy, and he was the enforcer behind Trump's anti-immigration policy. Irish Star reported that his daily arrest quota was 3,000 arrests a day. The plan involved arresting every undocumented immigrant in the country. However, this aggressive immigration initiative has affected First Lady Melania Trump's close friends. According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump told his aides that Miller's immigration agenda had gone too far.

According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the Iran war was not the only reason the Republicans faced a crushing defeat at the US midterm elections. Trump's immigration policies were also among the pivotal reasons for the Republicans' midterm defeat. The aggressive enforcement operations brought down illegal border crossings to a low in decades, but they also caused conflicts. Trump supported these immigration policies throughout the year and allegedly told his aides to push for a bigger crackdown.

According to an anonymous source cited by The Wall Street Journal, a problem arose when First Lady Melania Trump realized that people she knew were getting deported. President Trump reportedly told his aides that Stephen Miller, the architect behind the immigration campaign, had gone too far with the policies and arrests. According to the report, Republicans from Florida and Texas also complained in private about the mass deportations.

According to a report by Irish Star, Melania is an immigrant herself. She was born in Melanija Knavs in Slovenia. However, she is now a legal US citizen, although many of her friends are immigrants. Many Republicans from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas have raised concerns that deportations could impact the agricultural industry, as such raids might cause them to lose farm labor. This shortage of labor might lead to an increase in food prices.

Irish Star reported that Republicans have also been vocal about the immigration agenda. They have reportedly complained that it has gone too far following the shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis.

After the death of Alex Pretti, congressional Republicans urged a thorough federal-state investigation into the use of force, ICE credibility, and the policies of the Department of Homeland Security. This included Senators such as Susan Collins, Bill Cassidy, and Lisa Murkowski. Apart from that, representatives such as Andrew Garbarino and Michael McCaul and Governors Phil Scott and Kevin Stitt also requested a thorough investigation.

Republican Senator Thom Tillis had been vocal about his concerns about Miller's role at the White House and had asked that Miller be removed from his position. The retiring North Carolina senator told the Guardian that Miller's immigration crackdown is a threat to Trump's administration. He noted:

“He is not worried about substance. He’s more worried about form, but I also think that he has an outsized influence over the operations of the cabinet. And I believe we’ve got qualified cabinet members there that sometimes are doing less than what they want to, because of his direction and his outsized influence. He’s a big problem in this administration. He has been from the beginning.”

Neither Stephen Miller, Donald Trump nor Melania Trump's office have verified the reports yet.
