Murray Hill’s distinct comedic genius has garnered him a huge fanbase. Through the years, he has contributed immensely to the world of entertainment. However, the “lifestyle” he gained through “show business” eventually led him down a dark path of struggle and difficulties.

In a recent interview with Page Six, Murray Hill gets candid about the difficult times he had while struggling with alcoholism. He also speaks about how alcoholism led him to a breakdown, which changed everything.

Murray Hill on his struggles with alcoholism and more

Murray Hill’s path behind the spotlight has not been an easy one, as he struggled with alcoholism for a prolonged period of time, leading to several difficulties in his life. In the recent interview with Page Six, Hill opens up about the slow progression of alcoholism in his life. He points out that the path to alcoholism began in his 30s. He notes that as “you’re out every night, you’re in the clubs, you’re at bars”, it slowly leads to alcohol becoming a part of the life of “show business”.

In “show business,” along with the music industry and the world of comedy, people often drink as a “part of lifestyle”, which also happened in Hill’s case. He also adds that alcohol is “like a silent killer," as it is a "progressive" process and slowly leads to “addiction”. Instead of getting better, the situation gets “worse and worse”. The steady path to alcoholism in Hill’s case was “not fun” as one gets “chemically addicted”.

Once the “chemical” addiction begins, it becomes “very hard to get out of that”. Unless one reaches out “to get help”, the path to sobriety is not easy, according to Hill. Besides struggling with alcoholism, Hill also came across another challenge. The alcoholism was already a significant issue in his life. However, he was also “at a very low point” during the whole situation.

He was in “deep depression” as the alcoholism became “progressive”. He could not find any “pilot light” that could guide him through it all. In the interview, he adds that he had “no hope” and did not have “any personality left”. It cannot be denied that Murray Hill’s personality played a distinct role in bringing him fame in the world of entertainment. Hence, the situation of not having “any personality left” impacted him immensely.

The situation worsened for Hill as he was “freaked out” because he did not feel like himself. He eventually decided that he “didn’t want to go through that anymore”, which eventually led him to the path of sobriety. After getting himself to a psych ward so that he could get out of this dark circumstance, he chose to never go back to alcoholism. In the interview, he notes that he “never” wants to “go back” to alcoholism and has “not touched a drink since” checking himself in the psych ward.
