NAZA trailer reveals the explosive Gaza documentary that earned a record 25-minute Venice ovation

The trailer for NAZA has finally been released. The documentary film follows how AI and automated surveillance were used by Israeli forces in the current war in Gaza. The film first premiered at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 10, 2026, where it received a 25-minute standing ovation, the longest in the festival's history.

It has also won the Special Jury Prize. The film's trailer now gives us a look at the film that documents testimonies from Israeli soldiers and intelligence officers.

NAZA trailer reveals words from Israeli soldiers

Directed and written by Israeli journalists Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, NAZA is an exposé of the Israeli military's tactics in the Gaza war. All the interviews we see in the documentary took place in Tel Aviv.

The trailer begins with two people sitting on the terrace of a building. Their faces are not visible. Throughout the trailer, we only see the silhouettes of the Israeli soldiers as they say their pieces, their identities being kept anonymous. We see an Israeli soldier draw a building and say:

"This is the building I need to bomb. The NAZA of that strike was four."

When asked what NAZA is, a different soldier says:

"Collateral damage. The number of civilians who will die from a strike."

We thus understand that the documentary's title refers to all innocent lives lost in the conflict as a part of collateral damage. The trailer then briefly explains what the documentary is about. It states that the documentary will feature interviews of 24 Israeli soldiers involved in the mass killing of Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

One soldier says that after October 7, 2023, they were all told that no one in Gaza was innocent. The trailer also reveals how many of the soldiers believed that irrespective of what they did, the civilians of Gaza deserved it. One soldier says:

"Gaza became like a factory. A factory of targets."

Thus, to most of them, the collateral damage was just that, a means to an end. Gaza had targets that needed to be struck. When asked what was the highest number of Palestinian civilians killed in an airstrike, one soldier said that they were once approved to kill 500 innocent civilians for 1 human target. The trailer is evidently just a glimpse of the 24 interviews the documentary features.

What's scarier is that one soldier says that he is sparing the filmmakers by not revealing everything he knows and that he cannot say much. That suggests that what we know about Israel's war tactics in Gaza is just the tip of the iceberg.

The documentary is produced by Harry Davies, Lindsay Poulton, and James Wilson. The Guardian and JW Films are the companies that produced the documentary.

NAZA will be released in North America at the New York Film Festival. It will get its theatrical release in the United States on September 30, 2026. After its theatrical run, the film will be available for streaming on The Guardian's website from November 2026.
