Avengers: Doomsday is just three months away from its release, and it continues to be discussed constantly as December approaches. The first Avengers movie since 2019's Endgame, Doomsday is marketed as the beginning of the end of Marvel's Multiverse Saga, which was kicked off by 2021's WandaVision.

Marvel released four short teasers for Doomsday between December 2025 and January this year. The most popular one was the second-last teaser, which featured the X-Men from the early 2000s film franchise. Now, a new alleged Avengers: Doomsday leak hints at a dark storyline for the mutants in the upcoming Marvel movie.

Alleged Avengers: Doomsday leak hints at a shocking crossover:

The alleged Doomsday leak reveals that the movie begins with a shocking crossover between two early 2000s Marvel franchises: the X-Men and Spider-Man. However, this crossover is not the Web-Head's collaboration with the Mutants, as in the 1990s Spider-Man: The Animated Series. Instead, this crossover will set up a shocking plotline for the X-Men in the upcoming Avengers project.

The leak alleges that Avengers: Doomsday opens with the revelation that the X-Men are no longer the heroes they once were. Instead, the leak hints that the mutants are focused on survival. It suggests that Doomsday opens in Earth-10005 (the X-Men Universe). There, Professor X sees another Earth in the sky approaching theirs.

This Earth hurtling toward the X-Men Universe is revealed to be the Raimi-Verse, the universe inhabited by Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker. Deadpool and Wolverine enter the Raimi-Verse to destroy it using a bomb, but they are confronted by Maguire's Spider-Man. Another leak also suggested a similar opening, and that leak hinted that Magneto hurls a large metallic object at the Raimi-Verse.

Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man supposedly takes Wolverine down with him, while Deadpool barely escapes. These two deaths in the opening scene set the ominous tone for Avengers: Doomsday, which supposedly takes inspiration from Infinity War, which also ended on a dark note. Many leaks hint that Doomsday ends with the formation of the Battleworld, with everyone forgetting the world prior.

Thus, if this Doomsday leak is to be believed, the Marvel movie opens on a rather ominous note as we see not only the destruction of the Raimi-Verse but also the revelation that the X-Men are an antagonistic force in the Avengers movie. This plotline is a reference to the original Secret Wars comic, in which the X-Men briefly considered abandoning the heroes.

If this leak is true, then Doomsday will fulfill something planned all the way back in the 2000s:

If Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man encounters Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in Avengers: Doomsday, it will be the first time that the two characters will meet each other on the big screen. However, the makers of 2002's Spider-Man were planning to film a cameo for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine in the movie. The Australian actor himself confirmed this in a 2013 interview:

"We really tried to get me to come on and do something, whether it was a gag or just to walk through the shot or something. The problem was, we couldn't find the suit. The suit was stuck in some thing. And so when they were in New York when I was there, we couldn't get it together."

Marvel's attempt at a crossover failed because they were unable to find the Wolverine costume. Doomsday has been marketed as nothing but one giant attempt at appealing to people's memories of the old franchises. There is nothing better than reminding people of the two legacy Marvel film franchises.

But rumors suggest that Doomsday is not the last time Jackman and Maguire will share the screen together:

One of the recent Avengers: Doomsday leaks hinted that the post-credit scene returns to the opening scene, as we see what happened after Wolverine and Spider-Man's supposed death. We learn that Maguire's Spider-Man and Wolverine manage to survive the destruction of the Raimi-Verse. Moreover, the two even remember the incursions before the formation of Battleworld, setting up Avengers: Secret Wars.

If this post-credit scene is true, then it would be a meta commentary on Marvel's part about the significance of the early aughts' X-Men and Spider-Man film franchises.

Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters across the world on December 18, 2026. However, Marvel is releasing Avengers Endgame: Encore, an updated version of the 2019 movie, on September 25, 2026. Encore will bridge Avengers: Endgame with Doomsday.
