Avengers Endgame: Encore, the re-released version of the 2019 movie, concludes with a setup for Avengers: Doomsday, featuring two mid-credit scenes and one post-credit stinger. These scenes were all added to the 2019 movie, as none of them were a part of Endgame. One mid-credit scene is set after Spider-Man: Brand New Day and it focuses on Bruce Banner.

In that scene, Bruce is trying to inject himself with a serum that can suppress the rageful form of Hulk for good. But at that precise moment, Victor von Doom interrupts Bruce and abducts him to a mysterious location, leaving behind green runes on the floor. We don't know why Doom abducted Banner yet. But one theory suggests that Doom might have wanted Hulk for a very specific character: Bob Reynolds.

Avengers: Doomsday theory — Doctor Doom wants to draw out the Void:

One Reddit user named "u/BigBadMike8" put forth an interesting Avengers: Doomsday theory, which began by pointing out that Doom has the mysteriously powerful Latverian Witches on his side. This fan points out that these three powerful witches can easily overpower almost all the Avengers. But there is one person in the good guys' team who might be able to resist the witches' magic: Bob Reynolds/Sentry.

This is where the fan introduces the biggest possible twist: Doom isn't interested in defeating Sentry. Instead, Doom wants to push Sentry to become the Void again. Doom might have carried out research on the Earth-616 heroes and he might have realized that the only hero who has a chance to stand up to Sentry is the Hulk. That's because the Green Giant's power increases every time he gets angry.

Doom hopes that as Sentry and the Hulk come to blows, the Green Giant will force Bob to push harder and harder into transforming into the Void. As for the possibility of the Void banishing everyone into the dark, shadowy realm, that's what Doom wants. The theory states:

"Now with the Void entering the battlefield, I think the most likely scenario is he voids everyone, including Doom, except that's exactly what he wants, to harness the Void's power by stealing it from within."

The theory further goes on to say the Void's act of banishment achieves two goals:

"By voiding everyone before the incursions hit, this could be a round-a-bout way to save as many characters as possible from the impacts of the incursions and simultaneously remove any remaining threats to Doom. With the powers of the void, Doom could face the god of stories himself to ultimately win, ascend to the throne, and create Battleworld."

One fan agreed with the theory, stating that while Hulk and Sentry may start off on a hostile note, it will be only temporary. By the time Secret Wars rolls around, it might be revealed that the two powerful Marvel heroes might be the reason why some characters manage to survive the events of Avengers: Doomsday.

Another user put forth that Doom needed Hulk because of his power suppression serum. Having Hulk on his side meant that Doom could neutralize any threat to him in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

Hulk vs Sentry: Who would win in the fight?

Sentry has been described as Marvel's answer to Superman. Therefore, some may think that Sentry would easily defeat Hulk in a fight. However, that's not the case in the Marvel canon. One of the most discussed fights between the two was in World War Hulk, which was published in 2007.

The fight between Sentry and Hulk in World War Hulk #5 was one of the most brutal skirmishes in Marvel history. In that issue, Sentry is able to withstand Hulk's attack, but at the same time he can feel the impact of the punches. Thus, in terms of power scaling, both Hulk and Sentry are equally matched. The fight ultimately ends in a stalemate as both of them are forced to revert to their human forms.

The only way Bruce "wins" this fight is when he, in his human form, knocks Bob out with a punch. Therefore, it won't be surprising if the Russos are using this key piece of Marvel lore for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

Why would it make sense that the two fight in Avengers: Doomsday?

Some noticed the parallels between Bob and Bruce when Thunderbolts*/The New Avengers was released in theaters last summer. Bob Reynolds is a mild-mannered man in the first act of the movie. Bob was chosen by Val's OXE group for an experiment, as he had trouble with substances. This experiment is why Bob has his Sentry powers. But there is a side effect to these powers too: the Void.

The Void is clearly the darker side of Bob, much like the Hulk is the darker half of Bruce Banner. Both of their darker halves come out when their hosts' lives are in danger. This is why it would make sense for the two to fight in Avengers: Doomsday. However, this fight could instead plant a seed for a team-up in the future that could even teach the two to reconcile with their darker halves.

Do you think that Sentry and Hulk will fight in this December's Avengers: Doomsday?
