Former NBA star Lamar Odom was arrested in Las Vegas on January 17, 2026, on suspicion of speeding, driving while intoxicated, and changing lanes improperly. The former NBA star has had a lot of run-ins with the law in recent years; his legal troubles and drug abuse battles, which are quite well known, have come to light again.

As of now, Odom is out on bail, and his court date is set for March 17. Neither Odom nor his representatives have made any comments regarding his arrests.

DUI arrest in 2026 and 2013

Lamar Odom was speeding nearly 40 miles over the speed limit while intoxicated and was reported to struggle to maintain his lane before he was pulled over.

The DUI arrest in Las Vegas isn't the first time that the basketball player has been arrested. Back in 2013, he was arrested and taken into custody in California on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. This happened in the month of August, early morning on a freeway.

After entering a no-contest plea to a misdemeanor DUI conviction, he was given a three-year probationary period and was required to attend an alcohol dependency treatment program. The arrest occurred amid growing public concern about his substance abuse during his marriage to Khloé Kardashian.

Near-fatal overdose at Nevada brothel in 2015

The most publicized trouble involving Odom occurred in October 2015, when he was found unconscious by the employees at a legal brothel called the Love Ranch in Nevada after allegedly using cocaine and sex performance-enhancing drugs.

He had twelve strokes and six heart attacks while he was in a coma. He was hospitalized for several weeks. Khloé Kardashian, who at the time had filed for divorce, temporarily paused the proceedings and was his medical proxy during his recovery.

Odom later said that it was “one of the darkest times in my life” and that he was “not in a good place mentally” before the incident.

Post recovery struggles and housing lawsuit in 2025

Lamar Odom continued to struggle financially and personally, even after surviving the overdose. In December 2024, the former NBA star had entered into an oral agreement with the company for a month-to-month tenancy, which was $15,000 rent.

Odom failed to pay the rent for the months of January, February and March, which led to several notices and, finally, a three-day notice served on March 11. Lamar Odom failed to comply with the notices and was forced to vacate the apartment. The case brought even more attention to the instability he has experienced since leaving the NBA.

Lamar Odom's attempts at recovery and public accountability

Lamar Odom has been candid about addiction, childhood trauma, and the challenges of staying sober in the years after his overdose. He has attended rehabilitation programs multiple times and launched Odom Wellness Treatment Centers which aims at helping others struggling with substance abuse.

Odom has repeatedly credited his survival to faith and the support of loved ones.

Despite their brief reunion on a 2025 episode of The Kardashians, Lamar Odom and Khloé Kardashian formalized their divorce in 2016. Although Kardashian has referred to Odom as "the love of my life," she has acknowledged that their marriage was ultimately unsustainable because of unresolvable problems.

Lamar Odom will be appearing in court on March 17, 2026, for his DUI arrest in Vegas.
