"Hollywood is brutal": Christy Carlson Romano recalls co-star she dated & who ghosted her because his team thought she wasn't "famous enough"

Christy Carlson Romano has opened up about dating former co-star Shawn Ashmore. She claimed that the actor ghosted her because his team deemed her not "famous enough" for him.

Shawn Ashmore and Christy Carlson Romano starred together in the 2002 movie Cadet Kelly. Ashmore played Brad, while Romano played Jennifer. Directed by Larry Shaw, it also starred Hilary Duff, Aimee Garcia, Gary Cole, and Andrea Lewis, among others.

On Wednesday, September 30, Romano shared a post on her Instagram account, opening up about her past relationship with Ashmore. She shared a picture of them together and wrote in the caption:

"Shawn and I dated for the summer we filmed Cadet Kelly and for a few months after. I was eventually ghosted and had heard “his team” thought I wasn’t famous enough for us to keep dating. Hollywood is brutal for a young girl. It’s why I wrote this book, to expose everything that actually happens in this business."

She stated that she is exposing many things about the business in her memoir, Once Upon a Trainwreck, which is set to be released on October 6.

Christy Carlson Romano has also previously spoken about Shawn Ashmore being her crush during the filming of the movie. In an interview with E! News, published in June 2022, she was asked if she had a crush on a fellow Disney movie star, and she answered:

"I dated my DCOM crush actually. My DCOM crush was Shawn Ashmore."

"It was nothing serious and he was a true gentleman. He's a very nice guy," she added.

Romano said that they "went on a few dates" before parting ways.

Christy Carlson Romano opens up about her struggles with Hollywood parties

Along with Cadet Kelly, Christy Carlson Romano is known for her role in Even Stevens and for voicing Kim Possible. She was a child actor who achieved fame quickly. In her memoir, she recalled that she was just 16 or 17 during the shooting of Even Stevens and had a tough schedule.

Romano further mentioned an incident where she did cocaine for the first time at a Paris Hilton party. In an excerpt from her upcoming memoir, as reported by PEOPLE, she wrote:

"I promised myself for years I’d never do hard drugs, but what if I just try a little? I need to experience life, right? I have nothing to lose, quite frankly. I take the key loaded up with a bump from Edie’s (her friend) hands and inhale. There, it’s done."

She further explained her struggles with partying and wrote:

"After six months back in LA, I have that familiar feeling: I need to go. I’m spiraling there, my career is less than nothing, and I can’t keep sleeping all day and partying all night... I can’t take the shallowness of Hollywood and clubs anymore. It’s going to kill me."

Christy Carlson Romano also claimed that she tried to become bulimic "just to feel something." She added that she was "depressed" and a little "untethered".

Romano is, notably, married to Brendan Rooney since 2013, and they have two daughters together: Isabella Victoria Rooney and Sophia Elizabeth Rooney.
