Jonathan Pie has taken Trump and the state of American politics to task in a video that has earned over two hundred and forty-six thousand views. The fictional political correspondent, portrayed by English comedian Tom Walker, runs a YouTube channel with more than one million subscribers. His latest upload, titled American Morality, has since gone viral across social media platforms.
Pie wasted no time establishing his tone. He opened by addressing Pete Hegseth’s announcement of a public execution by firing squad.
“As Pete Hegseth, Secretary of War, announced that the Execution by Firing Squad will be live streamed. Let’s take a look. Or maybe let’s not take a look. Oh, if you don’t like public executions, don’t watch them. Fair enough,” Pie started.
He then turned his attention to the bigger picture.
“American morality has finally reached the sewer. Public executions, ICE agents shooting American citizens, a president openly saying that a free press is a threat to national security,” Pie added.
The comedian went on to touch on the Trump administration’s sanctions against the International Criminal Court, which came hours after a former ICC judge won the Nobel Peace Prize, as well as the decision to commission tech executives from Palantir and OpenAI as lieutenant colonels in the US Army.
Trump responds in the affirmative when asked about his role in approving Hasan’s live-streamed execution:

As per a report shared by The Washington Post, Trump confirmed he personally approved the live-streaming of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan’s execution by firing squad. Reporters pressed him on it as he left the White House on Friday. He was asked more than once. When the question was put to him directly, Trump told reporters,
“Did I approve? Absolutely.”
Earlier in the exchange, he had been asked whether he wanted the execution live-streamed and whether he feared it could serve as propaganda.
“I’m going to make a determination about that, but he will be killed. He will be through firing squad. ... I really don’t care how he goes as long as he goes. And I think that the death penalty is a very worthy way of going for him,” he replied.
JD Vance says he will not watch the live-streamed execution and questions whether it will actually happen:

Hasan, a former US Army psychiatrist, opened fire on dozens of people at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center in Fort Hood, Texas, back in 2009. Trump approved his execution by firing squad earlier this week. The Pentagon confirmed on Thursday that the killing would be broadcast live on the internet. A first for the US military, the execution is scheduled for December 3.
That being said, not everyone in the administration appears to be on the same page about the broadcast. As per a report shared by The Washington Post, reporters put the question to Vice President JD Vance aboard Air Force Two on Friday: how did his Catholic faith sit alongside the Pentagon’s decision to live-stream the execution?
A self-declared supporter of the death penalty, Vance acknowledged that Hasan “brutally murdered” innocent people, but drew a firm line at watching it happen. He told reporters,
“If it’s ultimately live-streamed, I’m not going to be watching it.”
Vance also cast doubt on whether the broadcast would go ahead at all, adding,
“I don’t know that that’s actually going to happen. Let’s sort of see.”
