She told E! News about the first time they met:"I stayed on one side of the room with my people. We like to party and he doesn't drink at all. He was on the other side of the room holding bible study."Then in 2014, she told Glamour:"When I met Dwyane, his résumé looked like crap: athlete, going through a divorce, nine years younger than me. None of that screamed, 'Let's have a lasting relationship.' "She then decided to give it a shot after she went through a "heart-crushing breakup." The couple eventually started dating in 2009 and made their relationship public the next year. They split briefly in 2013 due to conflicting work schedules, but got back together later that year and got engaged in December 2013.On August 30, 2014, they married in a small ceremony in Miami, which was attended by family and close friends.Wade and Union have one daughter, Kaavia James Wade, who was born in November 2018 through surrogacy after Union struggled with infertility and miscarriages for years.Additionally, Union has accepted her role as stepmother to Zaire, Zaya, and Xavier, Dwyane Wade's children from past relationships.
