It's a huge moment for basketball enthusiasts, specifically for New York Knicks fans, as the team wins the NBA Championship for the third time. By winning the 2026 NBA Championship against the San Antonio Spurs, the Knicks celebrated their big victory after fifty-three years.

After defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on June 13, 2026, the Knicks received an invitation from President Donald Trump to visit the White House following their historic victory. Team owner James Dolan stated on June 17, 2026, that the New York Knicks will accept President Trump's invitation to celebrate the team's historic win, as per USA Today.

During an appearance on the June 17 episode of WFAN New York, James Dolan, who invited President Trump to watch Game 3 on June 8, confirmed the news that the Knicks are accepting the invitation from the President of the United States to visit the White House and said:

"As a matter of fact, thank you for asking me that, we just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted. We still have to figure out the details, et cetera, but yes, of course. Look, I invited the president to come down for the game. He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years and I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House."

While this is not the first time that a Trump administration has invited NBA champions to visit the White House to celebrate their victory, previously five winning NBA teams have refused to visit the White House and declined his invitation.

In 2017, following the Warriors' win, the team was invited to visit the White House by the Trump administration; however, Steve Kerr, the coach, and Stephen Curry eventually refused the invitation. Similarly, other teams such as the Lakers, the Raptors, and the Thunder also did not accept the invitation to visit the White House primarily because of Trump.

Another reason for the Knicks accepting Trump's invitation would be James Dolan, as he happens to be a friend and supporter of the President. In fact, it was Dolan who invited President Trump to watch Game 3 on June 8, which the Knicks lost to the Spurs.
