Selena Gomez is addressing the viral internet clone theory in a new video introducing Rare Beauty Foundation. In a video shared to Instagram, Selena Gomez can be seen sitting together with her new assistant, and going over the to-do list, which includes,

"Foundation casting, order lunch, call the clone, Facetime Benny, Rare Employee Meeting."

This comes after the internet has been ablaze with clone theories relating to the singer, amidst the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

What is the Selena Gomez clone theory?

Some fans allege that Selena Gomez was replaced with a body double and underwent cloning. The internet also referenced the Simpsons' cloning procedure video, claiming that the "real" Selena died in 2017, when she underwent a kidney transplant, and was replaced by a clone.

The theory goes back to Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber's relationship, claiming that the singer allegedly had a child with Justin Bieber, and that the "elites" asked Selena and Justin to "sacrifice" their alleged baby. As per the theory, Selena sacrificed herself to keep her and Justin's baby alive, and the baby is now being brought up by Kourtney Kardashian. She was then cloned, i.e., as per theorists, her facial features were used as a mask or another physical body.

Theorists also pointed at Selena Gomez's changed appearance, which she had earlier claimed was a result of Lupus, and Lupus medications. An unverified screenshot of an email allegedly linked to Jeffrey Epstein also surfaced online, which included the line, "decided about Selena." However, the alleged email did not reveal if the Selena mentioned is the singer and pop star, Gomez.

Selena is not the only one falling victim to the clone theory. Fans were convinced that Jim Carrey was replaced by a clone due to his appearance at the Cesar Awards in Paris. Fans claimed that Carrey's face looked different in clips from the Awards ceremony. A decades-long clip of Carrey's appearance on Late Night With David Letterman went viral, where he admitted to using decoys to fool paparazzi.

The actor's rep, while speaking to TMZ, addressed the claims and said,

"Jim Carrey attended the Cesar Awards, where he accepted his honorary Cesar Award."

Pop-punk artist Avril Lavigne has also been battling clone conspiracy theories. Fans online claimed that Lavigne was replaced by a look-alike named Melissa Vandella and that the singer died more than two decades ago. The Sk8er Boi singer on the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2024 laughed off the theories.
