A Dutch cinema chain is preparing to hypnotize people and make them rewatch Interstellar, among other films. They will be running the experiment with 30 people on November 9.

Pathé, a Dutch cinema chain, is set to host 30 people at the Pathé Buitenhof in The Hague on November 9. According to YardBarker, these people would be hypnotized before going to watch the movie. The experiment would then observe whether they could recreate the experience of watching a movie for the first time.

The registration for this event was free and closed on October 29. The 30 participants were also given a choice between four movies: Interstellar, The Matrix, La La Land, and Se7en. Based on their votes, one would be selected for the screening on November 9.

People on social media have reacted to this, as one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote:

Imke van Schaaijk, Brand Manager, PR & Communications at Pathé, said about the experiment:

"Who wouldn't want to see his favorite movie for the very first time? We know that wish is alive in many film lovers. At Pathé we continuously look for ways to offer our visitors a special cinema experience, for example with special performances and Pathé Classics. With REWIND we go one step further and try to bring that first viewing experience back to life with a special hypnosis experiment."

Hypnotist Victor Kraemer will carry out the hypnosis process. He will have one session with the participants online and then a second one just before the movie screening.

Interstellar was released in November 2014 and is known as one of Christopher Nolan's best movies. It stars Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Damon, among others.

However, Steven Spielberg revealed in April this year that he was set to direct the movie before Nolan. He told Empire Magazine:

“I was involved with ‘Interstellar’ for a year… and I became fascinated with it. I spent a lot of time at the [Jet Propulsion Laboratory] in Pasadena, California, talking to the scientists there and the aerospace engineers.”
"I actually hired Chris Nolan’s brother [Jonathan] to write the first and second draft for me, but it didn’t stick,” he continued. “Jonah actually said, ‘If there comes a point where you decide not to make this movie, I can tell you who’s gonna grab it. He’s already bugging me about it. And that’s my brother Chris’," he added.

Spielberg said that after he backed out, Christopher Nolan jumped quickly to take the movie. He added that it was a "much better movie" with Nolan in charge than with him.

According to Variety, in its initial release, Interstellar grossed around $681 million worldwide. It was also re-released in multiple forms in some regions.
