Selena Gomez is fighting fraud claims related to Wondermind, the mental wellness firm founded by her and her mother, Mandy Teefey, and former business partner, Daniella Pierson.

The pop star's lawyer, Mathew S. Rosengart, said in an exclusive statement to People that these are "completely meritless" charges.

"The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported 'fraud' or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally."

Rosengart continued:

"We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her."

The statement comes as two companies, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, filed a lawsuit earlier this week against Selena Gomez, Mandy Teefey, and Daniella Pierson.

As is shown from court documents, the plaintiffs are claiming that they were lied to about the infrastructure, management, and resources at Wondermind.

The companies state that they put almost $1.2 million into the company until they found out about its problems. The plaintiffs claim that Wondermind was quietly collapsing while the investors did not know about the company's problems.

Wondermind previously faced financial scrutiny after reports emerged that the company had difficulty paying employees. Former employees also raised concerns about Teefey's leadership in reports published last year.

Selena Gomez's attorney disputes any suggestion that the singer participated in wrongdoing. Rosengart said a motion to dismiss the lawsuit is being filed and vowed to defend Gomez against the allegations.

Selena Gomez's role in Wondermind

The Bad Liar singer has previously been described as an investor in Wondermind rather than someone involved in its daily operations.

A source told PEOPLE in 2025 that Selena Gomez had invested millions of dollars into the company and provided additional financial support after learning about its difficulties.

"Selena has invested millions of dollars over the years into Wondermind to support her mother and their shared passion for mental health, including when she was alerted about the most recent financial setback, and immediately invested more money as she's not involved in the day-to-day operations."

The insider went on, saying that Teefey had taken a more active role in addressing the company's financial problems through a personal loan.

"To invest in the future of the company, Mandy has chosen to take the lead here with a personal loan to invest in the future of the company."

Teefey has not publicly addressed the new lawsuit. Pierson, who previously served as co-CEO alongside Teefey, has denied the allegations, calling them false.

She has yet to release a statement. Meanwhile, Pierson issued a response to the allegations via The New York Times, saying she:

"categorically denies the allegations against her and welcomes the opportunity to present concrete documentation and financial records that establish the facts."

The legal dispute now puts fresh attention on the financial troubles surrounding Wondermind and the roles played by its three co-founders.
