Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has broken his silence on Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign ad featuring Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton's mother.According to NBC, the controversial ad, which Ramaswamy's campaign vowed to spend $4 million to air, showed Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, calling her a "liar." Arthur alleged that Acton "lied her entire life" and urged people to "don't let her become your governor." Amy Acton has repeatedly spoken about the sexual abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother's second husband. The Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee's ad featuring his opponent's mother, who appeared to question the abuse she allegedly faced at a young age, drew severe backlash online. On Thursday, outgoing GOP Gov. Mike DeWine addressed the ad during a press conference. DeWine shared his experience of listening to r*pe victims when he served as a prosecuting attorney. He then commented on Ramaswamy's ad, saying:"The ad, on its face, is deeply, deeply troubling. But when you know the rest of the story, when you know the backstory. When you know that. The husband of the mom was indicted by a grand jury after hearing testimony. And that he took off along with the mother. And that child, that the two children never saw, I guess, their mother after that. When you know that, it just, to me, makes it more serious. It makes it just more wrong. So it's wrong to run this ad."He urged Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign to "take down" the ad. When asked if he still endorsed his fellow party member in the race, DeWine said:"Today is about the ad, uh, but I'm not- no, I'm not changing endorsement. I endorse the whole ticket; as you know, I'm a Republican. I endorse the whole ticket."Trump blasts Mike DeWine for condemning Vivek Ramaswamy's adAfter Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine slammed the ad targeting Amy Acton, Trump came out in support of Vivek Ramaswamy. In a Truth Social post, the president praised the ad and accused the press of targeting Ramaswamy. Later in the post, the POTUS took aim at Mike DeWine, saying:"Our RINO Governor of Ohio, Mike DeWine, who I unfortunately helped get elected years ago, when he was losing by 16 points prior to my doing a Rally for him, was, as usual, disloyal to the Republican Party. He strongly suggested that Vivek should, 'take down the Ad.' He probably wants a Dumocrat to win, and certainly doesn’t want someone who will do a much better job than he is capable of doing."Trump insisted that Vivek Ramaswamy should continue with the ad and let people listen to Amy Acton's mother's account. Earlier in the post, the president argued that if his mother had said anything bad about him, "the Fake News would play it up." He added:"The Dumocrats would be totally supportive, and it would go down as the Ad of the Decade — Maybe the Century! It would win Awards for Excellence in Advertising."The POTUS praised Ramaswamy as an "outstanding person" and said he would be a "fantastic" governor.Earlier on Wednesday, Vice President JD Vance lambasted Republicans for "whining" about Vivek Ramaswamy's ad and defended him during a campaign rally in Ohio.
