The Home Room actress, Busy Philipps, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February 2026, during a recent conversation with People, has opened up about her difficult experience.
According to People, Busy Philipps, 47, who was previously married to filmmaker-turned-screenplay writer Marc Silverstein, with whom she shares her two daughters, Cricket and Birdie, underwent not one, but two major surgeries following her brain tumor diagnosis.
While speaking with People, Phillips revealed that she had two surgeries, as the first one was a setback; therefore, she needed another one. The Made of Honor actress, Busy Phillips, also shared that his former husband, Silverstein, and her friend, the Academy Award-nominated actress Michelle Williams, who was her co-star in The WB TV series Dawson's Creek, were extremely supportive before and after her brain tumor surgeries.
As she underwent her first surgery in March and her second in April 2026, Busy Philipps has now recovered and also resumed work. While she will have to go through routine checkups, Philipps is glad that she was able to overcome this ordeal. Busy told People:
"I'm grateful that I'm alive."
While talking about breaking the news of her brain tumor diagnosis to both her daughters, Busy Philipps recalled it was one of the most difficult things she had to do. She kept the news of her diagnosis from them until she was sure about it. Mentioning her older daughter, Birdie, Philipps said:
Birdie "was kind of beside herself and really, really scared and overwhelmed with emotion. I just kept saying to her, ‘Birdie, you’re just not in the movie where your mom dies your senior year of high school. That’s just not the movie that you’re in. I promise you.’ "
Then, talking about her younger daughter Cricket, Busy said:
"Her reaction when I told her was like, ‘Okay. You’re going to be fine?’ And I was like, ‘I’m totally going to be fine.’ And she’s like, ‘Okay.’ "
Following her brain tumor surgeries, Busy Philipps said, "My brain does not feel broken anymore"

While talking about her friend and co-star Michelle Williams, who supported her throughout the toughest time of her life, Busy Philipps recalled having a conversation with her about how she felt her brain was broken. Philipps recalled:
"She said, ‘Busy, you have been saying for the past two years, My brain feels broken.’ And she was right. I have. I’ve been saying this for the last few years. . . . I wasn’t consciously aware that anything was really wrong, but there was something that was misfiring. Like, I could not get a handle on it.”
She continued and added:
"My brain does not feel broken anymore.”
As Busy talked about how other people, specifically women, can learn from her ordeal, she said:
"We are frequently told by doctors that there is nothing to worry about [when] you kind of know that there’s something to worry about. There’s nothing to be afraid of in having information. It’s only empowering."
