Christina Applegate has revealed that her doctor told her that she didn't have multiple sclerosis. She said that she was misdiagnosed, but she still has the same health issues that she's been struggling with for years.

The Married... with Children star received a multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2021. She has been open about her health struggles on social media and her podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, MeSsy. Notably, Sigler has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

However, during an episode of their podcast on Monday, October 19, Christina Applegate revealed that her doctor told her she was misdiagnosed. She said:

“It’s hard to say, but she came into my room and she said, ‘Congratulations, you don’t have MS.’ I was like, not happy at all. Everybody else was so happy.”

Applegate got emotional and teary during the podcast and said that the news didn't really make her feel better. She said:

“You don’t get misdiagnosed and then all of a sudden I’m better. I haven’t gotten better, Jamie! If anything, I’ve gotten worse. So I’m back at square one where I don’t know what’s going on with me. And that’s going to be an online investigation that my doctors are going to be getting into just to find out what has been going on since 2021, why did this happen?”

Christina Applegate and Jamie-Lynn Sigler had two episodes on this topic. They also invited Dr. Marwa Kaisey, an associate professor with the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Department of Neurology, in the second.

Dr. Kaisey revealed that misdiagnosis in cases of multiple sclerosis is “fairly common”. She added that “we don’t have one single test for MS", and instead have a list of criteria, which could lead to misdiagnosis.

The Dead to Me actress further opened up about dealing with the news of her misdiagnosis. She said that "nothing magical happened" after she was told that she didn't have multiple sclerosis. She added:

“I’ve gone through a great depression because of it. But I lost everything. I lost my job. I lost, I’m sorry. What do you say to someone who’s been living with this for six years? God, I’m so sorry because it stopped my life. I still have to use a wheelchair when I go to the doctor’s office. I can’t walk from the car to the room. I’m still in this."

Christina Applegate also spoke about dealing with the wider multiple sclerosis community that she has been part of and built over the years. She spoke about her and Sigler's podcast, adding:

“It’s weird because I feel like I let everybody down. It’s this weird feeling because I became this, you and I, the poster children for MS. And everything I was doing. I had a reason."

She said that it was "very unnerving" and "confusing" for her, as she couldn't put a name on her daily struggles. She added that she was in a "state of shock".

Christina Applegate had taken a break from the MeSsy podcast in March. Jamie-Lynn Sigler used to host it solo or with guests from April.
