Dolly Parton's Hollywood Walk of Fame star vandalized after country icon's death, repairs reportedly underway

Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star is being repaired after the Hollywood Historic Trust confirmed it appears to have been vandalized with scratches.

The star at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard was already scheduled for repairs because of damage and aging. The Hollywood Historic Trust said other stars had been given priority because their condition was more serious.

After Dolly Parton died on Aug. 25 at age 80, the organization and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce decided to move her repair date forward. A representative told Entertainment Weekly:

“A fan went to the star yesterday and reported on social that the star was vandalized with many scratches. From the photo she posted, it does appear the star was vandalized with scratches.”

The rep continued:

“This repair was set up late last week and the crew just completed the first part of making said repairs. The star repairs are currently ongoing and are done by the Hollywood Historic Trust, which maintains and repairs the Walk of Fame stars. The star will cure and will be polished on Friday for fans to enjoy.”

Meanwhile, the Hollywood Historic Trust also shared their stance on the matter, stating that the repair schedule had been moved up “to honor her life and legacy.”

“When she passed, the Hollywood Historic Trust and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce made the decision to move her repair timeline up, in order to honor her life and legacy. We made that decision right after she passed and were simply waiting on our permit to begin the replacement process.”

A photo shared by the Hollywood Historic Trust showed the replacement star surrounded by caution tape as workers prepared the site. The original brass emblem was removed while crews worked on the black terrazzo panel.

The repairs come as fans continue to visit Dolly Parton’s star following her death.

Visitors had previously gathered at the Hollywood landmark to leave flowers, handwritten messages and other tributes in her memory.

Some fans were surprised to find the star temporarily unavailable. One visitor had traveled from Hawaii and planned to leave a lei, while another fan from Boston said she was disappointed after learning she would not get to see the star before returning home.

Another fan shared on Threads that she and her daughter went to lay flowers on Dolly Parton’s star to pay tribute to the icon, but that “somebody decided to do this,” referring to the vandalism.

“When we arrived a custodian was cleaning and told us a woman kicked candles around then with the shards of one scratched the star. Then a man came and stole the flowers that were there.”

Dolly Parton received her Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1984, 42 years before her death. The repair is now expected to preserve the landmark as a place where fans can continue paying tribute to the country music icon.
