Emma Stone has opened up about her decision to keep away from social media. The actress, 37, sat down for an interview with Rolling Stone following the Super Bowl commercial that she shot with Bugonia director Yorgos Lanthimos for Squarespace. The black-and-white commercial is expected to debut between the annual showdown's first and second quarters on Sunday, February 8. In it, Emma Stone tries to purchase her own domain name online, which she revealed she tried to do in real life as well. "One hundred percent no. That’s why I don’t even have Instagram," Stone said when asked if she would turn her domain name into a lifestyle website. "I’m too afraid of my own mental health to be engaged in that way, and that’s why I’m such a lurker and love following other people’s stuff." At another point in the interview, the two-time Oscar winner continued, "I don’t know [why] I never actually did that. Squarespace kind of had to deal with my lack of foresight. So I’m very grateful they did or else the commercial really would not have worked. It would have been weird if you went to EmmaStone.com and it was… I don’t even know what might have been going on over there." During an interview with Elle Magazine this week, the actress admitted that she has largely kept away from electronics as much as possible: "I’ll tell you something a little silly. I just got a computer for the first time in about 10 years," she admitted. "I’ve been reading scripts on an iPad and writing long emails on my phone for 10 years, which is psychotic. We’ve had a production company [Fruit Tree] for six years, and I just… I never had a computer. So I appreciate a website that formats well on a phone, which Squarespace renders beautifully. A lot don’t! With all the cookie pop-ups and bad navigation, I’m like, “I can’t get in here.” I like cohesion between design and phone interfaces, even if no one else cares because they aren’t dumb enough to do everything on their phone," she continued. A press release for Emma Stone's forthcoming ad for Squarespace reads as follows, per Rolling Stone: “In today’s crowded digital landscape, claiming a plot of virtual real estate matters more than ever. A domain is the first step to getting online—and with Squarespace, it’s also a starting point for building a brand or business that can be scaled over time.” The company claims to have millions of users across 200 countries and territories across the globe. During her interview with the outlet, the actress also revealed that she reads "a lot of fashion content," creative writing and "a little bit of the gossipy stuff" Substack.
