Victoria Monét has reportedly addressed online discussion surrounding comments about Drake being a “professional trick” and “trickster master,” saying reports about the exchange were inaccurate.

According to the Coastin singer, she didn’t call the rapper a “professional trick,” and the viral clip was inaccurate.

"False news btw. The interviewer mentioned his name. I did not. He also didn't respond. This is a comment from August that media is trying to run with."

She reportedly followed it up with a line promoting her new album.

“But here is some true information: my new album Frequency Of Love is out now. Sending everyone loooove.”

The issue sparked during Victoria Monét’s interview with Complex.

Interviewer Jillian Superstar described Drake as a “professional trick” while talking with the singer about the term “tricking,” which refers to spending money or buying gifts for another person in exchange for companionship, attention, or intimacy.

Victoria Monét laughed at the comment but didn’t mention Drake herself during the exchange.

The rapper later responded to the discussion in the comments of an Instagram post from Level Up Hip Hop. He explained that he enjoys spending money on people who he feels deserve it and said his generosity does not come with an expectation of intimacy.

“There’s a return on investment in your soul for doing things for people who you feel deserve it. Whether you feel that way in the moment and they prove otherwise over time or it’s a gesture to acknowledge consistent love and loyalty the difference is there isn’t an expectation on the other side.”

He also drew a distinction between generosity and relationships based on an expectation of intimacy.

“It’s self awareness that you have been blessed with an obscene amount of money and joy is the emotion that excites you the most. So once you have experienced enough joy from material things for yourself sometimes the only way is to see the joy on faces after unexpected gestures for others.”

Drake further wrote:

“Transactional exchanges with the expectation of intimacy are a different frequency.”

The context of Victoria Monét’s reference to an August comment remains unclear. The original comment under The Shade Room’s post is reportedly no longer available as well.
