"For me, it's over": Charli xcx declares her Brat era finished during Berlinale appearance

Charli xcx stepped onto the red carpet at the 2026 Berlinale International Film Festival and confirmed that her boundary-pushing Brat chapter has officially come to a close as she premieres her new film project.

The pop star, amidst the promotions for her mockumentary movie The Moment, turned heads at the Zoo Palast in Berlin, Germany, on Feb. 14, in a stunning all-black silk dress.

At the press conference that day, Charli xcx was asked about the status of her Brat chapter, revealing that her film marks the culmination of it.

"For me, it's over."

The Grammy winner continued, recounting the making of The Moment:

"Making this film was quite cathartic, in a way, because I was also able to channel a lot of my frustration that I may have felt in the real world into these heightened scenarios that I was experiencing within."

Charli xcx had already hinted at the finale of her Brat phase.

As she capped off her Coachella set last April 2025, the LED screens played glitchy snippets with a suspenseful and broody remix of I Love It, and a message that says:

"Does that mean Brat summer is finally over????? IDK? Maybe? Maybe it's time for a different kind of summer? Maybe it's time for me to let go? Maybe it's time to make way for..."

The screens then swiftly featured names of her collaborators, such as Addison Rae, Lorde, A$AP Rocky, Pink Pantheress, Haim, yung lean, Rosalía, and many more.

While Charli xcx released preludes to the would-be critically-acclaimed album, such as the release of the lead single Von Dutch in March 2024, and the kick-off of her Brat arena tour that April, the artist officially began her Brat era following its drop in June 2024.

In the subsequent months, the so-called "Brat Summer" saw its rise on social media, characterized by viral TikTok trends and the "Brat wall."

In October, the singer unveiled the remix album, Brat And It's Completely Different But Also Still Brat.

Charli xcx's Brat then wins the Best Dance/Electronic Album title at the Grammy Awards in February 2025.

Meanwhile, as she enters her new artistic journey with the anticipated premiere of her A24 mockumentary film, The Moment, Charli xcx spoke about the project that fictionalizes her Brat album tour. In a conversation with Variety Studio, the 360 hitmaker shared:

"I was approached to make a more traditional tour film around the 'Brat' shows I was doing. It kind of felt like a way to elongate the life span of the album for my record label. I was just not really into that. I was only interested in flipping the form of something quite traditional."

"I was thinking of how I could put a spin on a long-form film about what I had experienced throughout the album cycle. This is where I landed, this satirical take not only on the music industry but myself. It felt like a way into talking about pop culture, fame and the loss of art the second you put something out. This felt like a rich ground to breed ideas."
