Giuliana Rancic, the former E! News anchor, has made multiple headlines recently, as she pushed back on the way actor Jerry O'Connell, now fifty-two, described their early 2000s relationship. O'Connell had publicly apologized on the July 19 episode of Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa for being a "terrible boyfriend" to Giuliana Rancic during their time together. That being said, the fifty-one-year-old felt his account left out a few key details.
Rancic addressed the relationship on a podcast episode that dropped on July 29, and she was joined by her husband, Bill Rancic. She recalled that O'Connell had gone five days without contact before the relationship ended, and wasn't picking up her calls during that stretch. Growing genuinely worried, she threatened to call the police, which prompted him to finally respond and reveal he was back in Los Angeles at his condominium. Rancic recalled,
"He goes, 'I'm fine, I'm fine.' So I was like, oh my God, okay. So I write, I'm coming over, like, I haven't seen you in like five days. What's going on? So I go over there, and that's where this whole thing happened."
She also revealed that O'Connell "broke up with me from a balcony" when she arrived.
Giuliana Rancic recalls the balcony breakup that left her devastated and humiliated:

Giuliana Rancic had actually written about this in her 2016 memoir Going Off Script. O'Connell confirmed on Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa that her account wasn't off base, though he couldn't recall the exact wording. On her podcast, she painted a very different picture of the night than what O'Connell's apology had suggested.
He was standing on the balcony the entire time. Didn't come down. Didn't want to see her in person. Rancic shared,
"He didn't have enough courage to come down and see me face-to-face, like a foot away, and instead did it from a balcony. He broke up with me from a balcony. And I honestly thought it was because he was just like over it, done, and he was just like, bye."
That being said, what hit hardest wasn't the balcony. It was the feeling of what that choice meant.
"It was devastating, heartbreaking, humiliating. It was traumatizing. It truly was, and I just could not believe what I was hearing," she shared.
Giuliana Rancic says O'Connell is downplaying what their relationship really was:

Rancic made clear that the relationship was no casual fling. The two were together for a year and a half, and she said they were together "24/7." In her view, O'Connell was
"downplaying it, what the relationship was."
"The whole thing was just crazy. Listen, at the end of the day, you know, here we are 22 years later and, obviously, we both moved on," she shared.
The podcast was, from her side, a chance to clear up what she called a "fuzzy" memory on O'Connell's part. That being said, she was quick to point out that the episode wasn't coming from a bitter place.
"I do love that Jerry is an open book, even if his memory is a little fuzzy. And the entire podcast that we're doing today is coming from a nice place. It's coming from a place of love. I truly believe everything happens for a reason. We are both happily married now, we both have great families, and we are both exactly where we're meant to be," Rancic explained.
Giuliana Rancic married Bill in 2007, two years after she interviewed him live on air following his win on The Apprentice.
Giuliana Rancic knew she and Bill were good together from their very first interview:

As per a report shared by People, the two hit it off immediately when Giuliana interviewed Bill live on air after his win on The Apprentice. Bill wasted no time, putting his arm around her and asking with a smile,
"Want to get married? What if I proposed? What do you guys think?"
Giuliana played along, turning to the audience and asking,
"Do we make a good couple?"
The conversation quickly turned personal. When Giuliana asked Bill about his romantic life, he flipped it back on her, and she admitted,
"Okay, honest, I'm very busy, I work a lot, so I haven't found any time."
Bill agreed, saying the same was true for him. Giuliana then teased him about the type of women he was likely meeting, to which he fired back about the "young California surfers" she was probably seeing. She shut that down quickly, saying,
"No, I like a business man."
The rest of the interview was filled with giggling, flirting and personal questions, including Giuliana Rancic asking Bill his astrological sign before declaring,
"This is so fun, I'm not going to want to stop."
She wrapped up by telling him,
"We're good together!"
