The president addressed the public during his midterm campaign rally in Nebraska on October 5. In his speech, the POTUS apparently said that Iran can ‘take out’ LA and San Diego amid the conflict. He dubbed it a ‘small price’ to keep the country and the world safe.“It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles, let them take out San Diego,” the POTUS said. The president was heavily criticized for comments against San Diego and LA. Among other political figures, US Rep. and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi also called out the president for his Iran war remarks. The veteran politician said that the president must not be ‘frivolous’ with the weight of his office. She added that the POTUS went ‘beyond the pale’ with his comment.“The words of an American President weigh a ton. He must not be frivolous with the weight of his office. Donald Trump has gone beyond the pale saying Iran can “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego,” Nancy Pelosi said. She continued:“How could he say the slaughter of Americans is a "small price to pay"? The American people expect much more of a U.S. President.”White House clarified Trump’s statementThe White House released another statement defending the president over his remarks. They claimed that Donald Trump didn’t say that. As per the White House, the POTUS meant Iran can attack the two cities with nuclear weapons and that the US is fighting to stop it.“No, he didn't, you buffoons. He was saying the U.S. is fighting to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon — which they would if they had the chance,” the White House stated.Karen Bass, the Mayor of Los Angeles, reacted to the president’s statement. She said his comments were dangerous and that they encourage Iran to attack American people. The Mayor of San Diego also responded to Trump, saying that their city is not collateral. Todd Gloria urged him to keep their city out of his ‘reckless’ war.
